2014 Shelby GT500 Delivery Nightmare

Well, today was the day to inspect our newly delivered 2014 Shelby GT500. It has not been the greatest of experiences. I am NOT a happy Shelby owner....as of yet!

First of all, I had to listen to my husband rant all night because the dealership didn't call my husband to let us know that the truck arrived. He wanted to be there when the car came off the truck. They called when we were both at work on second shift. I had a friend who was getting service work on his Explorer yesterday and SEEN the truck pull up at noon. The dealership e-mail me at 2:18pm and called my husband at 2:39pm....just after he punched into work. Almost seemed deliberate......... We both work second shift and start work at 2:30. My husband was about to blow his top!

Next, when we got to the dealership at 8 am (in which we were NOT happy and running on 2 hrs of sleep) there was another wrench thrown into the mix......the car was DAMAGED in shipping!! Apparently, the salesman "e-mailed" me about this last night at 4pm, in which I am STILL waiting for the e-mail to arrive. (I have a smart phone and get e-mails on my phone.) MY heart sank.....The salesman told me it was damaged when the car was pulled off the truck at the dealership! I literally was like WTF?!? Now that I think about it, I'm not sure how the delivery driver could but two deep marks in the rear bumper backing it off the truck....the marks are about 4 inched on each side of the license plate in the rear. I'm thinking the damage occurred either when it was placed in the rail car OR maybe if the car was backed onto the truck and with the clutch being so "touchy" he back into the trailer?? Needless to say, our car is still at the dealership and will be STAYING there until May 17th for repairs..

We ALSO found NUMEROUS scratches on the car. There is two dings in the spoiler on each side on the top of it. Almost where something was over the car during shipment? We also found a paint chip/ding in the driver side rocker panel from someone getting in of out of it!!

The only thing that is making me still yearning for the car is when we started it up and heard the rumble of the exhaust!

We proceeded to take the car to the gas station because it was 22 miles till empty. As we were at the gas station we were filling up the Shelby with our salesman jaw jacking, the gas nozzle do not shut off, spewing gas ALL OVER the side of our car!

I feel as though this car is a lemon and doesn't "feel right" but I don't know how to feel! I think I am MOST upset that the dealership didn't follow through and CALL us when the truck arrived like they said they would! However, I think my husband would the hung the deliver driver if he seen him back the car into the truck trailer!

So fellow Mustang lovers....what would you do? I want your opinions!! I'm thinking about "asking" for the dealership to take some money off the final sales price for all the hassle and because the car will NOT be considered original...

This makes us BOTH sick! We have not smiled all day..... It's like our Shelby experience has been ruined. I feel as though car salesmen should be in politics because they all lie!

Again, tell what you would do?

Don't buy it. It will haunt you forever worrying about all the little things wrong with it. Go to another dealer and order a perfect one. Just my opinion.

Oh and sorry for the crappy experience.

I work 2nd shift(2:30-12:30) and missing call and emails and such is a fact of life of the shift. You should be blaming the shift and not the dealer for the contact part. Being mad all night is just silly of the hubby. Just because the truck was parked at the dealer doesnt mean the sales guy knew it was there or that the laod was checked in and ready to unload. They have things they have to do before they take the cars off the truck.

Paint issues suck for sure, but paint is a very easy thing to fix.

I'm so sorry that your experience has tainted!

As a Sales Manager for a Dealership, I assure you that ALL salesmen do not lie. This one however did not follow through properly and is trying to cover for himself or his Management is trying to cover themselves on a bad situation.

I have seen instances where damage has occured on vehicles coming off the transport trucks - it's unfortunate, but it does happen. Based on the Dealerships lack of consideration, I would hold their feet to the fire to accomodate you for your troubles. Either a discount on the vehicle or if there is something that you want (tint, accessories, etc) - now is the time to renegotiate the deal. The Dealership should offer it, but probably won't.

I wouldn't be unreasonable, but your time and inconvienence is worth some restitution.

Also, based on your story - do NOT take delivery of the car until it meets your expectations. PERIOD. They cannot force you to take it so don't let them tell you otherwise.

Yeah ordering another one is an option if you don't mind waiting again, I know it sucks. Or try for a significant price reduction

DO NOT take that car. You're paying a ****ing truck load of money for a brand new car. Stick them with it and go to another dealer. **** that. That's bull****.

This, they will have to fix it somewhat whether you buy it or not. See how it turns out and then choose. If you are not sure, take a good paint person with you. And yes, get a price reduction or something.

Sorry your experience wasn't perfect, but I don't understand; why would it take them nearly a month to fix a scratched rear bumper and/or spoiler?

Even if they had to paint and install a new bumper skin, that's like a 2 day job... max. Something doesn't sound right, or there's more going on here.

On the other issue; I dunno - the truck pulled in ~ noon, and they emailed/called you before 3pm that day. I'm not sure what's wrong with that, to be honest. Were you prepared to take the day off work to go pick up the car right then? If not, it likely wouldn't have made any difference anyway - they're unloading the car off the truck either way.

BTW, responding to the post directly below mine: New cars bought off the lot have paint/minor repairs done to them ALL the time, and the dealer doesn't have to (and usually won't) tell you about it. It's not like dealers send cars with damage back to the factory in situations like this.

Not worth stressing over, get you down payment back and move on.
I wouldn't take that car for 5k off, i buy new and expect a perfect unrepaired car.

I know your pain, although my car didn't come in damaged luckily, my overall experience with a salesman was horrible. Absolutely no communication, wouldn't even answer my calls half the time. The only time I've been back was for my first "free" oil change and after reminding them it took 5w-50, not 5w-30, they proceeded to empty the oil out before realizing they had no oil to go back in. Had to us a castrol substitute from autozone...........good times.

Well,

-First of all, it's not going to take a month to fix. We originally wanted the car in July/August so we could get a "nice" down payment together. We were looking at putting down 1/3 of the value of the car. The date kept getting pushed up, and pushed up. Low and behold the car was delivered yesterday. Before the car came, our dealer agreed to keep the car until May 17th so we could have a decent down payment in hand. This is our decision.

-Second, There is still a foot of snow on the ground here and salt on the road. Temps have been in the low 40's. That don't jive too well with the summer compound tires. And the salt does not help the situation either.

-Nothing smooths thing over like money off! We are going to go in and renegotiate, especially since we are getting a "factory second" car.

-Our dealer called his regional rep to see about getting a second Shelby ordered. The rep said absolutely not. Otherwise we would of ordered a new one.

-Trust me, when my husband and myself hit the dealership this morning we skimmed the entire car for ANY imperfections. We will NOT take delivery of the car if we find more....

Pass on this one and order another from another dealer if need be, you want to be happy with your purchase.

Negotiate a better deal now based on your inspection and approval after repairs are completed. If it is not to your satisfaction, walk away and order another from a different dealer. If they are not willing to negotiate go to another dealer.

Agreed - just be reasonable. They will not even consider it if you walk in demanding $10,000.00 off or something assinine. It would be cheaper for them to tell you to get bent, fix the car, and sell it to someone else without disclosing the damage (in CA if it is under a certain value, you don't have to disclose lot damage - your state may vary).

If you still want the car you should be compensated for your troubles via a lower price (within reason) or some compensation on a warranty, accessories, or the like. Flippin out will get you nowhere but stressed out. Breathe, go in and renegotiate, and either come to an agreement that works for both parties or get your deposit back and find a better dealership. The one that you are currently working with doesn't seem all that impressive.

Thanks for the info! We have had much disappointment in our vehicle purchases lately. Seems that no one care about you after they get your money.

Just curious what a "reasonable" price would for our compensation for our troubles?

Read the back of your sales contact carefully. Sone dealerships write that down payments / deposits are non-refundable. This is not Ford's policy; just the dealerships'.

Dealerships are independently owned and franchised by Ford. As long as the dealership follows some basic Ford guidelines, they are franchised to sell Fords.

Good luck. It sounds like your dealership is just as crappy as the one we bought our GT500.

I'd pass and order another one. It's a GT500 so your not giving up any rebates, offers or special financing deals by buying waiting. I had a 2010 I bought new and there was a chip in door. Dealer fixed chip but in right light I could always see where the repair was.

I believe that this is the most expensive car Ford may sell. Last I knew dealerships were marking up the MSRP by around $10K just because they had one in the showroom. When you layout that kind of money, you should be able to expect a special experience, especially from the dealership. If you haven't heard from dealership owner themselves I'd say you are NOT getting the customer service and consideration that a special purchase of this magnitude deserves. Yes, be PO'd and vent here others that may be in the market for this level of car need to know where NOT to go.

I'm not sure what you have agreed to in relation to MSRP, But I would think that somewhere between $1,500.00 and $2,500.00 or an equal value worth of accessories or services would be fair without them just walking away from the table. That is IF the repairs are done to your 100% satisfaction. I would get it in writing as well.

The laws on refunding deposits vary from state to state, but I know that in California a dealership cannot under any circumstances refuse to refund a deposit, but in certain cases I have heard of it being held until the vehicle was sold to another client.

Personally if a client cancels an order at this Dealership, their Deposit is refunded within 24 hours - But we do things right here at Valley BMW!

Best of luck!
