The 2013 Shelby has quite a challenge before it!
Well everyone's entitled to their own opinions. We'll all see what happens in a few months, all will be revealed. I'm very interested to see what Ford has planned for 2013.
I'll give credit to GM when a 3rd party takes a production car, with production tires and a production engine and goes that fast at the Ring. It may just be that quick, it may not. It might be a 'production intent' car but it still has a full cage, which helps a lot to stiffen a car and help it around a track. So until the two cars are tested on the same day with the same driver, I'll wait to congratulate GM.
True. Who knows if they were equally equipped.
How about when Ford said they ran and finished Baja in a production Raptor?
With a few modifications of course. But those modifications were pretty siginificant if you watch the Born in Baja video. But I accept that. Its just a matter of seeing the whole story.

The problem is this. The GT500 has never been a road racer. Didn't think it was supposed to be. Maybe it will hang and maybe not. Either way, the camaro SS is still fugly. Make it look better GM and then there is some real competition.

"While rumor has persisted in the past year about more power for the 2013 Ford Shelby GT-500, the new UAW contract hammered out last week confirms it. Reports have been long out there that the 2013 GT-500 would get an increased displacement and 600+ horsepower.
The contract spells out more investment and work for the Romeo, MI engine plant to build a “5.8 liter supercharged V8”. There is only one place for such an engine and that’s the Shelby GT-500. A larger version of the current 5.4 liter engine is widely considered, as opposed to a punched out version of the new 5.0 Coyote V8. We won’t know for sure until Ford pulls the veil.
With the new Camaro ZL1 making 570hp, most believe that the new 5.8 liter GT-500 will pack 600hp at least, if not well more. Many reports also speculate that the new engine will see a TVS2300 based supercharger, also an Eaton design but more efficient than the M112 supercharger on the current models."

Testing on the Ring? Sure, if you happen to be in Germany anyway why not. It can't do any real harm so long as the very high average speeds are taken into consideration. Ring times as a real measure of performance relative to what a stock car can manage? There simply is no control (read: rules committee) and as such Ring times from any manufacturer are completely worthless.
That thing is pretty fast. Not 1964 Fairlane fast or anything..
Same Track.

^^This, the interior is terrible looking and I hate the chopped roof look.
exactly. Ugly is ugly no matter how fast around the ring it goes. Don't matter to most cause most will never even see the ring, much less drive it.
In all fairness guys the car being ugly is our opinions, as far as whammer... Go sell your boss, recycle cans, and get you a z to slow!! After all you deserve one, the cars are probably being built with your tax dollars anyway, didnt whammer say in his last thread for cobra guys to stay off the boss threads? Refresh my memory!!! Bottom line no matter what gm does or has done in the past, mustang will always have the edge!! PEOPLE LOVE THE MUSTANG MORE PERIOD!!

This article is probably the most informative one I've read about the lap time. It still had a full cage in it, but it didn't have the PS Cup tires like I expected. It used Goodyear F1 Supercar G2 tires, like the '11-12 GT500 SVT PP has on it. Is the full cage and racing seats going to drop 30-40 seconds off? No. It will, however, not be a truly accurate representation of what the car will do for a consumer. The weight change is probably moot.
I am impressed that the car with the added weight made it around the 'Ring as quick as they claim, but I also want to point something out. 'Ring times are becoming the modern **** measuring tool of performance cars. I used to think it was cool, but let's look a a few things. First, there is absolutely no standard that they go by. One car can have a full cage and R comps, while another can be a showroom sample. Drivers are a whole other story. One can bring a chassis engineer, while another could bring a small race team. Look at the recent Viper ACR times. It seems like every few months, times are changing for similar vehicles, with little or no explanation why.
GM makes 'Ring times a huge deal, and really, they mean little to the US consumer. I'd bet 99% of us won't ever make it there, let alone drive on it, and unfortunately, it makes for a great argument among fanboys of multiple platforms. I'd rather see a list of several tracks, like VIR, Road America, Laguna Seca, etc. with showroom sample cars and the same driver (much like Motor Trend does) and see what kind of times they put down. This would give enthusiasts a much more equal expectation of what the car is capable of.
