2011 Shelby GT500 Pricing Announced
I've driven a couple of bimmers and my favorite by far is my friend's V8 M3. It's got a ton of personality. The chassis, brakes, and steering are probably the most connected feel I've experienced in a car. You can feel exactly what the car is going. Plus I love the sound of a high revving V8.
You guys need to go to BMW's website and price out an M3. MSRP is $58,400, 60,575 when factoring in gg tax and destination. Start adding options and you'll hit 70k pretty easy. Not exactly the same price range. The Shelby (while expensive outright) is still a pretty decent value for what you get, and what you can ultimately do it.
I thought I remember reading somewhere the price was actually higher than what the Shelby company people wanted.
In my opinion, if anything sets the tone for a split, it will be what is done for an enhanced 5.0L car from Ford independent of the GT350. The GT350 pricing will just happen cause the less "devoted" to say "WTF...for $4n,000 (n=1-4), I can get something that is close to the GT500 for over $5000 less!"
I believe the Shelby company's GT350 product planning with Ford is only "loosely coupled" because they are trying to differentiate themselves more as a standalone entity. It seems curious to me to overlap the engine power output of the GT350 and GT500, especially if these 2 cars wind up weight close to one another (supercharger on GT350 "fattens" it up, aluminum block on GT500 slims it down).
I would have loved to seen a price more in the $40,000 - $45,00 range, even if it would have to compete with a Boss 302 (assuming we get such a thing).
Ah, the fun of speculation...
This is what I'm thinkin.
With what the SE has, you won't be seeing this as a simple 3-5k package like the Mach1 was.
GT350/GT500 while keeping with the Shelby name will confuse some people, considering one is a factory built and one is a 'used' GT with parts.
I'm sure it'll be marketted lower (power wise) even if they make the same ammount of power.
