More than I can afford, but if you bought an '11 Mustang GT (popularly equipped around $35K), added an FRPP 550hp Whipple blower, bigger/better brakes, bigger/better wheels/tires, suspension upgrades, etc. to match the '11 GT500's all around performance, you'd be paying the same in the long run.
Of course, a better bang-for-the-buck would be a new '10 Mustang GT (deep discounts right now), or a slightly used pre-2010 GT or GT500.

I don't think the top of the line mustang should be priced as high as the vette.
The 03 cobra was much cheaper then the base vette and was much faster. Not so with the GT500 vs vette.
I don't think the price increase is too crazy... aluminum engine, standard HIDs, etc. The SVT package seems kind of high... tweaked suspension components and larger wheels notwithstanding. I’ve always had a problem with wheel upgrades... where’s the credit for the standard OEM wheels? It seems as though you pay a premium for the wheels as though the cars comes without wheels...
Hey everyone, there is something VERY different when you price out a GT500!!! THERE IS NO GAS GUZZLER TAX LISTED!!!!
Don't know if Ford hasn't figured out how much to charge, or if they changed things in the transmission to negate it, or maybe they just added it in the base price (though I don't think they can legally do this, as they have to show it). So the prices may change within the next month to show this. Hey Brian, any ideas on this?

As already mentioned, aluminum block and HID's are standard upgrades this year. Add in some tyipcal model year inflation, and $3K comes up easily.
IIRC, base MSRP of the 2007 GT500's in late 2006 was about $42K, so we've seen about a $7K to $8K hike in 4 years, and been rewarded with a fair amount of upgrades in that timeframe.
