2010 Shelby GT500 Problems

I've been loking thrugh Ford Motor Company's facebook page and it appears there are many complaints on the GT500. I hope this thread does not become like Camaro5 with fanboyism, just wanted to bring into the light problems that should be fixed

Engine Tick on gt500 only 200 miles

What do you think. Recall on the way? Apparently, the guy says most GT500's have the same problem

Well since it is the exact same engine (new air intake & tune) Ford has been putting in the GT500 since 2007, I really do not think there is a first year engine issue here...

The axle issue is being addressed by Ford. They are doing testing on a painted axle. I have no idea how or if they'll replace it for existing owners. It should be in-place at some point in the near future.

If we want to talk about problems there are a couple more that seem to be reoccurring for more then one person.

-hood alignment is off from the factory
-gt a/c vent rings installed by mistake
-paint quality issues on bumpers around the seem
-paint around the door angle worn down to the metal
-damage to the wheel during shipping

I wouldn't get too hopeful about getting a new axle, the has been a common issue on many S197s from the factory, but doesn't affect performance or functionality. I think everyone can agree that it's not visually attractive, though.

Correct, surface rust.

Ever seen the underside of the Camaro? Not a bit of surface rust. They properly painted the underside. It's not 1960 anymore in the car market.

lol, ****

The GT500 is a interesting case isn't it? Ford really has no clue how to deal with customers who spend more than $10k on a new car. It shows system wide, all the way down to the dealer.

While it may not be something that you like, I don't see it as a problem. It's not like they forgot to paint a few of them and it's a mistake that they need to correct. They are ALL like that, V6's, GT's, and GT500's, and have been since 2005...probably even well before that. I don't think this is something that should be lumped under "Problems" with the car.

I'm sorry but that's unacceptable on a modern car. Even worse when you consider I'm throwing down near $50k for a Shelby. I wasn't happy about it on my 05 GT either. It's been a issue for many GT500 owners since the 07.

Agreed,

I have a scraped wheel, scratches in the rear bumper from the taillight install and I'm still fighting my dealer.

Mine looks like that too. Doesn't really bother me, the car gets driven quite a bit so...

So because your car looks like that it makes it ok? Wow, you guys have some really low standards. A little paint on the axle would have set back Ford maybe $50 at most....

While I agree it would have been nice of Ford to paint the axle, they didn't. You bought the car that way, and that was the way Ford intended it to be...so it's not a "problem" that needs to be fixed.

Naw, I can't remember Ford ever painting an 8.8 in a Mustang. I'll gladly trade 50 bucks worth of paint on something 99.99% of the buying public doesn't give a dern about for the 50 bucks worth extra heavy duty stuff that comes with the car elsewhere.

Not saying I would do something about it if I had the axle out of the car (I did powder coat the axle sitting under the old 91 LX project car along with cad plating the backing plates), but until that day comes, its certainly a non-issue with me.

There doesn't need to be a trade off. $50 on a car this expensive is nothing. Bottom line is the underside of a modern car should be clean. Just because they didn't paint it back in 1991 doesn't cut it in 2009. (nor was it good in 2005)

You have to remember the Shelby is a $45k+ car and should be treated as such. Honestly I think the axle should be painted in the V6 all the way up.

Ford's angling to compete with the Europeans on a lot of their performance cars... surface rust on a new or recent used car would be an embarassing manufacturing defect for a European manufacturer. Time for Ford to step up to the plate and learn how to compete in the higher end bracket.

The engine tick isn't a problem though, the mod motors sound like that.

Wrong. Ford displayed the 2010 with painted axles at all the car shows and the Detroit Auto Show. There was no sign that said " pre production model, actual car may vary "
