I don't even have a Mustang yet. Looks like a good wire brush and some sand paper and a couple of cans of paint would be an easy fix.

I was insulted by your comment about not posting in here simply because we don't own one. I have seen plenty of 2010 GT500 owners post in the GT sections and not once have I seen anyone tell them to go post in their own section.

That being said.... you sound like your whining about the rear axle rust issue. If it bothers you so much go get it painted. You spend more time whining about it and you could have paid $50 bucks and had it a non-issue by now.

I would be more upset with vinyl stripes instead of painted ones. If I was to buy a GT500 I would order it without stripes and then if I decided to go with them I would have them painted on like I did with my GT.

I'm certainly not bashing anyone who has put vinyl stripes on their car but the GT isn't a 45K+ car either.

bpmurr has valid points although it seems they can be successfully countered by making a typo the emphasis of the invalidation. Brilliant!

The Ford GT didn't come with them either unless you PAID for the option. Mustangs are painted by robots. Painting the stripes would be a huge cost if done at the factory.

It's a huge cost when they aren't done at the factory.

I had white stripes painted on my last 05' Torchred GT, I can tell you it was day and night with vinyl stripes. Looks way better, especially when car was clean and waxed. Cost me 1200$.
BTW, for me, just having the stripes painted everywhere including under the rear license plate worth the 1200$ alone !!

You don't get it, and didn't read my post. The Ford GT was *done at the factory* and was HUGE COST. Painted stripes weren't even standard on a $165,000 car. $5350. Ford isn't going to do the crap job most get when they have their stripes painted on. The $1500 jobs you hear about are painted on, then cleared OVER THE STRIPES ONLY. There is a seam. The correct way to do it is prep the ENTIRE CAR, paint the stripes, and clear the ENTIRE CAR. So tired of this BS " Omg ON A $45K cAr ThEY SHOULD BE PAintED on." See the sticker below and get educated on how much the cost actually is. Mustang would be even more expensive. It goes down an assembly line. Pulling cars off the line and individually masking/prepping them is an enormous hitch in the line.

Come over and did it for me then. I have no place to get under my car and paint it myself.

The fact that the axle is unpainted doesn't bother me but this is the first I've heard that the '11's will be painted. Where did this info come from? And why are they doing this if they haven't for the past 6 years and it's supposedly so expensive to do?

FYI, for 1200$ (before negociation it was 2000$) my car was completely buffed on hood, top, trunk, spoiler and the two bumbers. (they did no do the sides), then taped, painted the stripes and then re-clear all over. I got a great deal, and it was very professional with no seams of course.

OH I got what you said but since your panties are in a bunch about what everyone else is saying about the GT500 you missed my smiley face. Have a nice day~

OK, so make it a $5350 option. I don't see the problem.

I agree. I am talking of people who think it is financially possible for Ford to include them at the current MSRP.

So you would rather pay $5,350 for painted stripes from the manufacturer instead of going to a body shop and paying about half of that total after the fact?

You guys can't compare the Ford GT to the GT500. One is built on a fully moving assembly line that uses both robots and humans, that is NOT stopping, where as the Ford GT was built BY HAND by Saleen in a dedicated shop in Troy Michigan. To paint the stripes on the Shelby GT500s, the cars would have to be taken off the line, before ANYTHING is assembled to the body (glass, insulation, etc) to have the stripes painted. This would distrupt not only regular Mustang production but also Mazda 6 production.

If you want painted stripes, head to you a body shop near you. You'll be able to find someone that will do good work, TRUST ME!! I have had my stripes on my car painted almost 4 years ago and they still look BRAND NEW!!

Jeff and all, Something you might find interesting, the Ford GT was a collaborative effort of many companies. Saleen was just one of the teams involved as was Roush and Lear. Here is a synopsis of the major whos and wheres during a GT's life journey.

TK Budd/Milford Fabricating, Detroit, MI … Spaceframe Build (Aluminum Chassis)
Mayflower Vehicle Systems, Norwalk, OH ... Mfg. and install Body Panels, Closures, E-coat Spaceframe, Structural Adhesive Application
Saleen Special Vehicles - Troy, MI... Body Colour, Spaceframe Colour, wiring and electrical systems, dash, some interior, suspension, brakes, hoses and tubing, body trim
Ford Wixom Assembly Plant... Power train decking, fluid fill, seats, interior

This just for those that are remotely curious

Good post bud. I did know that the GT was a "group" effort from alot of different companies. I remember reading about Mayflower and their ways of making the body panels. My point was that it was a handbuilt car NOT on a moving assembly line like the GT500. I still miss the Ford GT production. WHAT A CAR!!!! Thank goodness I still get to see one every day at work (its still in our showroom, a 2005 3-option car).
