2010 GT-500 performance

I have not seen much info on this, but that could be because there isn't any yet. Will the 2010 GT-500 perform any better than the current? Will it be lighter, or have any more power? I have an 03 right now, but would love to upgrade if the top end Mustang would lose some weight.

I won't be expecting any significant performance changes yet. Maybe another year or two down the line, but not in 2010...

They should just make the Ford Racing Cold Air Intake standard on the 2010 rather than the stupid airbox, they would hit 550HP easy with that and a better tune.

GT-500 is likely to loose the lest weight of any if its still using the 5.4, but I would expect + HP/Tq and +handling.

The driver of the Gt 500 ,I saw at Flatrock earlier this week said ,"they must have played around with these ,because it seems stronger than the others I've driven." No further comment was made.

4Cam states a aluminum block for 2011 GT500 with 540hp...2010 is just carry over from what I heard.

how much weight will that give up, the 40 horse power gain is nice but not significant enough to keep me from buying the 2010 or even an 07-09. there will have to be a compelling difference otherwise i am going to go ahead and pull the trigger, i have been waiting long enough and can not take it anymore.

That sounds nice. An Aluminum block should drop considerable weight off the front end, improving balance. It would nice to see the curb weight dropped down to 3,650 or less.

The Al. block probably only drops the weight 80lbs..bringing the weight down to 3770 or so without the Mach 1000. All heresay of course, as I'm sure adding sync. and such will add weight. Going to Al. suspension parts and such..who knows..

don't follow because it is the same car with pretty make up. the platform is the same and barring some new engine design then they are freeing up a few more horses to go along with it. everything at this point is speculation anyway so how can you say that?

I doubt they will bump the power.....GT "500"...is just too good of branding to mess with...reguradless of what the number 500 has meant for the car historically.

although the theme of horsepower seems to be on the rise with each new introduction i very seriously doubt we will see the day where it gets much higher. it would not be economicaly wise for an automaker to mass produce a vehicle that will put down much more power than it already does.

sure, you will still have the limited cars like the zr-1 but the target audience will find it harder and harder to justify paying an insurance note that is as high as their car note each month. so again with that said, the 2011 gt500 being put into the market with any modifications, i would suspect, are not going to be to hard to reach with the previous models released. just my .02 or perhaps a justification fo not waiting another year!

I find it odd that Ford would even make a 10' GT500 if it wasn't a significant improvement over the previous generation. If the 11' model will have a new motor why even make a 10'? In the past SVT had no problem halting Cobra production in 00' (not counting the limited R model), 02' , 05-06'. At the same time it seems like the rest of the Mustang lineup will have carryover 4.6s and 4.0s from last year (why!) I feel maybe Ford should give us all the improvements from the KR standard on the 10' GT500 and maybe even add an IRS strictly for the GT500.

I'm debating if I should pick up an 09' at MSRP or hold off for the specs of the 10' model.

From what I've heard the 2010 GT-500 will get all the upgrades. Aluminum block, improved cooling, and more boost. Been also hearing the possibility of a carbon fiber hood.

A properly reinforced aluminum block to handle that much power will mean a commensurate increase in price. Add dealer ADMs, and I shudder to think what the asking price will be for these things when they arrive. Probably around $80K.

SYNC is basically just software. Not much weight there.
