Why on earth would Ford do this!!??

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/04/n...channel-gt500/

IMO they have stolen the uniqueness from the GT500. There are so many different ways they could've styled the '13 but they took the lazy way out.
Very disappointing.

Kind of been done before....

70 GT500

71 Mustang

Whilst I can appreciate GT500 owners may not be best pleased, there's not doubting (to me) it's a good look.

And who knows what tweaks the '13 GT500 may receive?

Doesn't matter what tweaks the '13 gets, IMO they have watered down the uniqueness of the 07-12 models. I just think there were far better ways for Ford to go on this.

Minus the magic eye camo wrap, I think it's going to look good. Not good enough to trade mine in though..

Wait... how do we know this is a gt? ?? I say it looks like a falsely badged gt500. Ford goes through hoops trying to hide the identity of their new cars who says that they wouldn't put a pony on the grill instead of a snake to throw you off?? My. 02

As far as I know these are the first pics of the new look but there have been reports for months that the GT was going to have styling similar to the GT500. The GT will be revealed within 2 weeks so we'll know for sure then.

With the splitter, I almost wonder if this is the 13 Boss 302. I wonder what it will look like in Gotta Have it Green?

Although I do remember hearing that the GT was going to look similar to the GT500, do we even know if the GT500 is going to be around for 2013? It could be a Boss or a Mach 1? Unlikely but just throwing it out there.

Judging by the exhaust and tires though, it seems like it's a GT. It also seems like the fender emblem and rear medallion are GT ones.

I agree, that there better be something big in store for the GT500 visually if the GT is going to adopt the look so closely.

I was also expecting more change to the tail lights since there has been so much complaining about them. The shape is the same. It looks like they may have just changed the lens design a bit.

Overall, it just seems like a weird and lazy way to update the car.

Nobody really knows what this is obviously, but I think ford might make some moderate changes here for 2013 and then a huge redesign in 2014. or even wait a year after to change in 2015. they didn't change until 2005 after the 40th anni. and they altered it after the 45th anni in 2009. They may just have a slight stepping stone for this next year or two. Who knows.......

The one in the Autoblog article would appear to be a California Special (no fogs in the grille, pedestal spoiler, side vents).

IYO it is not that difficult to reach such stage considering you appear to be oblivious to the over forty parts, components, or items (commonly known as upgrades), which are unique to the GT500 when compared to other Mustangs.

A similar GT500 hood and fascia will improve the look of the GT. Besides, the present GT hood is an imitation of the signature Camaro cowl hood which fits the Camaro heritage but not the Mustang's.

For decades Ford's reasoning and patterns of design and upgrades has always been for the top model's improvements to eventually trickle down to the lower end models. You might be surprised and disappointed but in actuality it is nothing new.

Rumors or wish lists do not amount to statements of facts or a press release from Ford for that matter.

Wow if that is a Gt Im goin to pass on trading my 2011 in. Ive never been a fan of the gt500 front end. I do like the looks of the new tail lights, rear bumper, and the slight change to the deck lid.

Corvette's do the same thing, the Z06 wide body trickled down to the Grand Sport. Doesn't really bother me, I still have the Cobra's on the car, and that fantastic motor under the hood!

I don't know why you waste the energy to post? I don't bother to read anything you post, it's just inane babbling.

Yep, quite agree, of course there's nothing official from Ford yet and I wouldn't expect them to confirm or deny any of the rumors. However, we've only got to wait another 10 days or so, and then we'll know for sure whether or not the GT500-a-like nose is being used across the range.

Right now though, I'd be willing to bet it is.
