Ticket for Tint
Ticket for Tint
Got pulled over today while heading to Ocala for dinner in the 2006 Mustang by FHP. Got a $120 ticket for window tint.
I guess I feel like you'd think they would have something better to do like pull over the idiots I see every single day on my way home from work running through red lights, making illegal turns, and hauling *** through town weaving through traffic.
No, they'd rather fine someone doing nothing wrong to pad the bank accounts of the state at our expense...the middle class citizen who breaks no traffic laws, no criminal record, who served his country honorably, supports a struggling economy, and pays through the nose for gas, groceries, taxes, annual vehicle registrations that doubled, who works his entire life to stay ahead of bills and survive the best way possible.
Crime does pay...it pays the state to steal from it's residents whenever they feel like it when they can't think of any other way to get money.
I've heard recently that law enforcement is going after anyone for anything they can to support the state's need for more money, including tint, ticketing for as little as 5 mph over the posted speed limit, and any of the other multitude of offenses that 10 years ago wouldn't have even gotten a second look from an officer who had more important cases to solve and bad guys to catch.
End of rant

Question:
Is the tint law that you have been accused of breaking a local, county (or equivalent), state, or federal law? I am understandably curious. I'm betting it's is Florida state law. For which, here's a legally tinted car (allegedly):
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/off-...tml#post516156
As per this:
http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/FL/
Which is none below the AS-1 line on the front, 28% on the main sides, and 15% on the backs. Which is not what Texas allows:
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/misc/faq/tint.htm
None below AS-1, 25% on the main sides, and ANY in the back. That's right, Limo is legal on all other side and rear glass. Unless you don't have rear view mirrors that let you see behind your vehicle 200 feet, then it's also 25% in the rear glass. Sides are exempt.
So if you are not within those FL parameters... yep, you are not legal, and you are not "the middle class citizen who breaks no traffic laws" anymore. You pirate you. And me too, arrr, as guess what? Limo tint in the back, baby.
Guess I'll not be going to Florida.
Which just proves that states rights aren't always right. Florida is a screwy place, that's why they have a 'Florida' tag in Fark, and is the only state that has it.

---
Also... Were any of those redlight runners, illegal turners, or *** haulers around when you got stopped? No? Well, there ya go, they didn't have those to do, so you're next.
Finally, no officer knows in advance, nor cares after the fact, what you do or how you do it. You're in an illegal car, they're GOING to stop you, and that's that. Too bad if you're otherwise a fine, upstanding, perfect individual. They don't care, they stopped you for a problem, and you're going to fix it. Oh, and seriously? I'm saying that with a sarcastic smile. I don't want you to think I'm
to provoke. It's just what they're doin'. Brother, brother in law are cops. It's just the way it is. Sorry.
Of course, the best thing to do is: Stop breaking the law, and it isn't a problem. I am avoiding Florida with Awesome, so I've solved the issue on my end.
/Now, understand that if people stopped doing what was illegal, then revenues go down, of course, and they put new laws into the books. Perhaps lowering (raising?) the tint level, and grandfathering it, so all the legal ones are now illegal? That's always a fun thing to do to your voting public.
//Truth about the Florida tag thing. Go see.
///Lucky dogs.

I just got a ticket dropped in MO for 1 MPH over by MHP and the court costs alone would have been more than the ticket, officer admitted he was on his way home and pulled over the 17 YO driver on his way home from school function. The court clerk could not believe her ears when I called this in over the phone, the ticket had not yet been entered in the system.
A tint ticket in FL? Wow, first I've heard of that. How dark are you?
FWIW, I run FL legal tint on my Mustang and it's pretty dark. I think you'd be happy if you retinted to the legal limits - but yeah, the ticket does suck. I've gotten them here in OH too, but the tint is nowhere near as common here as it is in FL.

It's not about SERVE and PROTECT .
Now it's about STOP and COLLECT.
Don't feel bad Fl. guys. I live 2 miles from Waldo (you probably know of). It's all about $$$ and they'll screw their own mother.

In lookin' about for the darkest legal tint... Check this out:
http://www.tintlaws.com/
And from that, this confusing business (from lightest to darkest, btw.)
---
Fronts
70% CA,DE,IA,NY,PA,RI,WA
NO TINT CO,IL,NH,NJ,VT
Sides
100%(any) AZ,CA,CO,DE,IA,MI,MO,NV,NJ,ND,OH,UT,VT
70% NY,PA,RI,WA
50% ME,MN
Rear
100%(any) AZ,CA,CO,CT,DE,IA,MI,MO,NV,NJ,ND,OH,TX,UT,VT
70% PA,RI,
50% ME,MN,WA
Best states:
AR 25,25,10
FL 28,15,15 <! Rears
NM 20,20,20 <! Wow, low!
OK 25,25,25
SC 27,27,27
TX 25,25,Any <! Limo rear
WY 28,28,28
Worst States, allowed front, worst sides/rear
ME 50,50,50
MN 50,50,50
Worst states, NO front:
Well, CO, IL, NH, NJ, VT
Oddest state:
CO 27,27,27
AND/OR
CO NO,any,any
Dunno what's up with that. Guessin' a vehicle type, but I'm lazy.
---
So the best option, to not run into any law problem, in the United States, is this tint setup:
Windshield: No tint (NJ, PA)
Fronts: No tint (CO,IL,NH,NJ,VT)
Sides: 70% VLT combined with window. (WA)
Back: 50% VLT combined with window. (MA, ME, WA)
Yeah, that'll look *COOL*. And help with the temperatures too.
---
While I'm all for the feds staying out of the business of states and local government business... this is one area where uniformity would be nice.
As it is, though, I know where I don't want to visit if I don't want trouble with the tint. Which technically is most states, given my tint is gonna be lowest legal in Texas when I redo it. 25% all 'round, thanks. Although I'd really like to do the 20% like NM has. Ah well.

I think you're wrong on that one houtex.....they know exactly who they're pulling over before they do it and what that person's record is by glancing at their on board computer.
I'll just mail in the **** fine for nothing. My state working for me I suppose. Price to pay for saving my leather seats and steering wheel I suppose until next time. And no, our tint is not that dark, but apparently is not "legal" by his meter assuming the tools they use are legal or calibrated correctly. Its all a matter of perspective.
"STOP and COLLECT" applies in Florida.

As if the feds don't already take enough of our money to help bail out those who have their hands out, the state has to take it's share too.
Just frustrated by it all and having to flush $120 down the toilet for nothing pisses me off.
I could always send a bill to the state for a refund:-)
If nothing else, my Florida brothers know to pull your windows down if you see FHP coming, since they want your money!
Thanks for letting me vent...I'm done!

Jesus, and you're a Veteran, too. I'm sorry, but I think you guys should be given a pass on stupid, petty crap like this. You've put your life on the line for our freedom, and you get a ticket for tint. I'm with you, SuddenDeath, this is utter crap. No wonder cops have such a bad rap with most of the American public...
"No, they'd rather fine someone doing nothing wrong to pad the bank accounts of the state at our expense"
Every state is broke so that's why all the police departments are getting so chicken****. It's happening everywhere and I'm expecting to get a ticket soon for no front license plate.

I got pulled over for no front plate last week, first stop in just under 30 years, but no ticket... looks like they are cracking down a bit. as budgets get tighter look for more and more harmless 'violations' to raise a few bucks for the state...and if a few 100 dollar tickets doubles your insurance premium, the state could care less. small towns are probably gonna stay the worst- where my mom lives in colorado they ticket for 26 in a 25, shes known several folks that pay astronomical high risk due to 'speeding' or have lost licenses. its utter bull****. her street has a 5mph posted speed limit???? 5mph when school zones are 20??? crooked police departments...
Oregon is limited to 35% VLT (visible light transmission) front side, back side, rear windows.
Its pretty messed up when your Country/State write rules they know are so stringent you will often break, and they write them overly stringent solely for the purpose of generating tax revenue. They depend on citizens breaking a law/rule for revenue. In other words, they don't like it when we are too obedient to their laws/rules of entrapment.

Shady Cove wonders if it's getting money's worth from sheriff
September 07, 2010
Complaints from residents have some Shady Cove City Council members asking for closer scrutiny of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department's performance in town.
"I'm concerned that we're not getting the service we're paying for," said Councilman Gary Hughes. "They started off giving us good coverage and a lot of visibility, but now I hardly ever see them at all."
Last year, after the city's police chief resigned and the local department was left with only two officers, Shady Cove disbanded its police department. In January, it contracted for police services with the sheriff's office.
Council members said residents have complained that the sheriff's office hasn't dedicated as many officers to the city as the contract calls for; that fewer tickets are being written in town, cutting city revenue; and that the department's response time is lengthy when residents call for help.
Sheriff Mike Winters said he had heard about the complaints just before the Labor Day holiday and hadn't yet had a chance to gather all the facts.
"I want to assure Shady Cove residents and the City Council," he said, "that I will earnestly be looking into this and will resolve it to their satisfaction."
