I've been panicing all weekend. I know the stripe is easy, but the new chip in the rear quarter really has me worried. The last time I had to have any paint done to a car was in the 80's, and I know it's changed a lot since then. Been kinda bummed out all day today, but once I get to the service department after work today, hopefully i'll be in better spirits.

After a trip to the bodyshop at the dealer, i'm not feeling any better. I couldn't seem to get a straight answer as to the results. The stripe, or decal as they put it, shouldn't be an issue unless dirt gets on the replacement or there is something wrong under the current one.
The crud near the window can be fixed but may require s lot of painting.
The new chips that were found and that are bothering me the most could be a different story. He tends to think that wet sanding it may help, but if it doesn't the whole quarter may need to be painted as part of the fix.
I kept asking about the results of the repaint and really couldn't get a straight answer. I guess that's just their way of saying that it could come out perfect, or it may not.
My problem is do I want to fix this little chip and risk a paint job that may not match or I may not like, or just deal with it. And if I do fix it, what happens if another shows up in the same area and i'm back to square one.
This is horrible. I've been soooo excited for 2 months waiting for delivery day, and now that it is here, this extremely minor incident has me so deflated. ARRGH!!!!

Don't worry about it, the car is beautiful. After a few hundred miles on the highway, it's going to have some more chips in it, no big deal. I know you want it perfect, and it is Ford's fault, just don't sweat it. Car looks great! No hood scoop?

Just like some people don't the rear spoiler, I didn't like the hood scoop. It does look nice with a shaker though, so that is a possibility later. This is a 2 year lease so it's mostly staying stock until I know I am definately buying it later which is (was) the plan. What the 2010's look like will help me decide.

I would just buy a bottle of touch up paint. I found a chip in the left rear behind the fuel door on mine. I was bummed at first but I am the only one that notices it so I'll just get some touch-up paint.
you sound like me. Any slight flaw drives me nuts! It sucks to be that way cause eventually SOMETHING will happen. Chips, slight scratches, etc. Sucks but a fact of life!

Yeah, i'm pathetic. The chip is so minor, but it's there. The average person would never notice it, and I even have a hard time finding it in bright sunlight.
My clear front and rear corners just came in today. While putting on the rear ones I noticed a few more minor flaws in the rear fascia where it meets the metal. Nothing worth complaining about, but I noticed them. Did I mention I was pathetic? hehehe The back markers went on smooth but the fronts will have to wait since there is only about 6 inches of clearence and I can barely get my head under to see how install them!
Not sure if I like them yet. They really stand out and your eye goes right to them.

08GTCandyApple has the clear front corners and I liked the way it looked. I just went back and looked again and her rears are still red. I need to get over a friends and use his jack to install mine this weekend. More pics when they go in.

Plenty of pines out here in the boonies of Massachusetts! I have to avoid parking under them because of the sap! Dirt and boulder driveway too, so it lives on the grass for now.
Im sorry to say but ford has some half-*** paint jobs on the new mustangs ive never seen so many factory paint issues before!!??
I have/had too many to list nor do I want to get the headache doing it
They need to learn how to prep the panels before paint. Also keeping areas clean to avoid all these particals from flying in the air that get blasted into the paint! I don't know how they do it, but they need to put more care into it.
Who are the morons that inspect these vehicles and let them pass with these obvious imperfections? (not only ford)
I saw a white shelby sitting in the showroom with some big chunk of something sprayed into the paint on the rear corner bumper that was beyond obvious. Who wants to spend money on that lol
I had a metal shaving on my fender opening it was so sharp i cut my finger rubbing against it.
Even my alloy gt I have now has factory paint issues...No rush to fix it. I just rather sit on it as its factory so its covered under warranty.
My tungsten gt had alot of darker paint spots, so does my b.f's tungsten gt.
They need to hire me...Ford call me

I would leave the back ones stock and change the front ones. I left my back ones stock and changed out the front ones with black housings and stealth bulbs. The GT/CS is all about black accents and I think the clear ones are to white, but that's just my two cents.

I'd like to fix it, but the body shop manager didn't leave me feeling too good about it. He couldn't even give me a clue as to the results. He spoke like a politician about it. When it doubt, just leave it alone. I'm new to this world, so i'm sure in the near future I will run into someone that knows someone who can get the results I need. I would rather pay a few bucks to get it done right rather than get a lousy job done for free under warrantee.

On another note, my new side stripe is in. To show you their competence, they wanted me to leave it for at least a half a day to put it on. I told him it's not rocket science to peel a sticker off and put a new one on. Geesh. He wanted it long enuff in case something went wrong and didn't want it at the end of the day. So much for geting it done after work. Now I have to wait until a day off and that won't happen unti the 21st.
