When should I get a tune up?

I just went to a Kwik Kar and was told that I need a tune up and it would cost about $350. I have a 2005 v6 with 72,000 miles on it. I've heard some people say you don't need a tune up until 100,000 miles. Any suggestions?

You should replace plugs and fuel filter around 30k miles at least I think thats what it states in the owners manual. Check or replace air filter with every oil change.

Plugs are rated for 100,000 miles. Tune ups now are very different. Replace plugs, maybe wires, and done. Fuel filter around 30,000 is typical.

Ask this shop what the 'tune up' they plan to do consists of. Are they just replacing spark plugs? If so, way over charging since the plugs (autolite 5143) are less than $2 each for the 4.0 V6.

The factory lists 100k miles for this service. But mine needed it at 85k, so that is when I had it done.

Some folks just clean their throttle body and that settles things right down. You can always try that first.
