I went to buy some oil filters from my local dealer and thought I would ask if they would just give me the bolts to install myself. These are the 2 bolts missing on most (if not all person's) 5sp manual transmissions at the bottom of the bell housing for the inspection plate. This plate rattles like a ***** when the engine is first started cold due to the missing bolts. I don't want to go through the hassle of making an apointment and them having my car for probably 2-4 hours just to install 2 bolts. I will just do it when I do the oil change.

Well, the dealer has no listing for the bolts  I handed them the pictures off of a previous post showing the missing bolts. This dealership has been very good to me, I know most of the counter staff by their first name, so I know they are not just giving me a line. They are going to investigate and find out what bolts fit there and then give them to me.

Also, when they ran my vin number on the computer, up popped a note saying "2 bolts". Apparently it was not related to the missing ones I have, very odd. I know I could go to a hardware store and pick up a couple of bolts (10mm I think) and install, but I want the proper ones for free. I will update when I have more info.
thanks for the heads up, I'm already had an apt 2day for service on that noise and I can def show the dealer what the problem is and they can fix it in a jiffy! Thanks man!

*UPDATE 2/23*

Dealer Called me and it is true, the rattling noise coming from the transmission is indeed two missing bolts. I read on someone's reply for the auto transmission, maybe they put the bolts on them but i dunno why they would forget to put them on the 5 speed manuals cause mine were def missing. So they installed the bolts and there is no more rattling noise. The guy thought I was like a mechanic when I printed out the forum note and told him of what the problem may be when i dropped it off last night and he was like, if ya knew what the problem was, how come u didn't fix it urself *jokingly*. So if anyone else with a 5 speed having the same rattling noise from a cold start up, go to your dealer and get those bolts put on.

Got the bolt sizes yet? Or would it be better to have dealer repair documentation?

My dealer is still trying to find out what the bolts are (part number, size)! They are putting a call into Ford to get help. I grabbed an assortment of metric bolt from work today and I will see which one fits tomorrow night. I will report my findings.

Maverick, any way you could post any info from the service paper/report? That should be able to help me and a lot of others out with dealers on this issue.

I wonder if Ford is going to keep leaving these bolts out? Maybe if they get enough people sending them into the dealership they may start adding them huh? As soon as I get mine I'll add them if they are not there.

I just got mine back from the dealership, and they put on the missing bolts. I have attached my invoice info since it is a little different than what Maverick posted.

It looks to me like the transmission part number is 6A372, and the bolt part number is *N605917*S2.

$1.68 After taxes American, at Lowells 2x 10mm x 1.5mm thread, 3/4" long. Just put them in mine. Drove it up my Rhino ramps and three minutes later and about 35 lbs torque on each and its done.

Still cannot believe my dealer dodged this one on me.

I searched but found no photo. Could it have been pulled? I'm just not seeing it.

This was discussed 2 years ago on Brads site. I had the rattle and Yes they are 10MM I got mine at Advance Autoparts store for $1.50. Automatic transmissions get them I think, but the manuals are left empty for some reason.

Where are the pics?
Is this still a problem for 2006-2007 GTs w/ the TR-3650?

Guys:

Good info. Did installing the bolts get rid of the vibration/rattling? I'm going to pick up a set tonight and install either this week or during my next oil change!

You will want to use anti-sieze on the threads and perhaps use stainless steel bolts.
