Stupid Check engine light..

While I was driving home from work yesterday, I noticed the check engine light came on. When I got home, I double checked the gas cap (which was last filled on Sunday) and it seemed fine, but I resealed it to play it safe. I saw that you can get the DTC codes from the holding down the reset and info buttons at the same time when you go to acc. power and it didn't have any error codes for me. IIRC, OBD2 system does a check every 60-70 miles or so...so if I wait it out, will the light go out? Or should I just pull the battery cable for 5 minutes and see if that works? I'm trying to save myself a trip to the dealer...

I had a check engine light a few weeks ago and my Predator also did not display any codes. If I understand OBD, you can have a fault code which results in a light even though there is no problem code to be displayed. If the same fault occurs for 3 (?) drive cycles, then you will get a code that can be read with the Predator or by using the reset and info buttons as you described. If the same fault does not occur for 3 drive cycles, then the light will go out. Before I learned this I reset my light using the Predator and it has not happened again. So, you can wait a few days and check for codes again or reset the light by disconnecting the battery and wait to see if it happens again. Good luck.

From what I understand, it's sort of a generic OBD term and differs slightly by manufacturer and maybe even model. A drive cycle should theoretically utilize all sensors and functions associated with the on board computer. Typically this means a cold start, a few minutes of idling, varying acceleration and deceleration, varying speeds, braking, etc. A day or two driving to work should represent a drive cycle I would think. I don't know the exact definition for our cars, but it is probably out there on the web somewhere. Try some searches and good luck.

if you dont know best bet is to leave it to the pro's, you don't want/need something worse to happen.

Perfect Timing. I just got a check engine light yesterday. I've got
2 driving cycles in so I'll see if I can avoid the Dealer as well. I have
a 2006 GT and I checked the CAI kit and it was secure on the throttle
body so that shouldn't be the problem.

Let me know how it turns out and I'll let you know my situation. The
only thing out of the ordinary is that I stupidly pulled a U-turn and
slammed the tire/rim in to a curb yesterday on the drive home.
It's negligible damage to the rim but I shaved a bit of tire off.
So far no loss of air.

More later........

Scott, your problem might be caused by your u-turn. Stranger things have caused codes to go off. It's telling you something is not right, according to how its programmed

After checking I got the DTC Continuous Code None as well.

The good news is that on the drive to work and home yesterday
the engine light indicator is not coming on anymore. I didn't
even have to disconnect the battery.

I'll see if anything more comes of it but that should be it.
