stumble or misfire - stock, no tune
stumble or misfire - stock, no tune
I have encountered the issue a couple of times and was wondering if anyone else has. I have read all kinds of threads about cars misfiring or going into safe mode, or dying, and not starting, etc... but they all seem to have tunes. I'm bone stock, and the last couple of days, I had the problem twice. In 3rd gear, if I'm just cruising, then step on the gas, to switch lanes and go around another car... it will act like a single misfire, then get up and run like nothing happened. I only noticed because I figure I had enough in 3rd gear to get around without downshifting.... then I noticed it felt sluggish... didn't have the response that I anticipated, and after what felt like a misfire (or even better yet, like an auto tranny downshift after a stumble)... then it got up and went. but I have a manual tranny... so I know that wasn't the case.
Anyone else experience this? Or know of the issue?

I've had the same problem 3 or 4 times. Cruising on highway, downshift to third to pass someone [with authority], wait for a second at 60mph, floor it and my car lurches like the clutch slipped or it misfired. It's totally fine after that, though my heart is up in my throat. Took it into the dealership on Monday and suggested this tsb. Got the car back yesterday and they said they couldn't reproduce the problem. Guess I'll go flog it and take a test drive with the tech Thu or Fri
Right on, saimin... thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll push for a big *** fule pump since one day I plan to supercharge the batch.
I would think that a hiccup in the fuel delivery would be recorded in a log somewhere, though... that way you don't have to recreate the problem.... you can just see that it happened.

It can be recorded with an X-Cal, or maybe a dealership can provide a datalogging tool, not sure. It will show up then, but it will not be recorded in the cars electronics without a logging tool.
It will NOT throw a code if is the TSB problem.
I fought with my dealership a little over this. They were saying "It hasn't thrown a code so we don't know what is wrong." I said "Read the **** TSB it doesn't say it throws a code just these symptoms".
They finally gave in and replaced the fuel pump. Here it is over 6 months later and it has NEVER done it again.
PS Most of these only reproduce the hesitation if the car has been driven for an extended period of time, say 30 minutes or more. The usual 2-5 mile test drive by the tech will NOT reproduce the problem.

Something simmalir has happend to me. I use to have a 93 octane tune from alternative auto took of 2 degrees of timing to acomodate for 91 octane. I was crusing around 70 mph on a slight hill on the freeway. I went WOT and it made the sound where it picks up right away but stumpled 2 times instinatly and picked up alittle slugish. Has happend twice. Still don't know what it is.
