In the shop for a convertible TSB - APPROVED!

Well, she's in the shop now, with just 85 miles left on the warranty, to take care of the "cut in the convertible top" TSB. And the 35k service of course. And to plug one tire with a nail in it.

So hopefully she'll come back to me with a tight, new top. Say a little prayer and keep a good thought. Now I have to do without her for the period of time it takes to order the top and have it installed.

That is going to feel like a very long time.

Or maybe it won't feel like a long time. I just leanred that Ford has denied the TSB claim based on the digital images taken at the dealership.

Based on other photos I have seen of this type of TSB-related top cut, I think I have a valid TSB request.

Guess I am going to have to call the regional Ford rep and follow up on this.

It is a little bit annoying.

Folks, even with more detailed photos clearing showing the chafing from the underside of the top and the failing straps, they are still denying my claim that my top damage fits the TSB.

Even though my damage exactly matches Adam8G's top, they're saying no. Any ideas?

To see Adam's top visit the original thread here. . . http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=69511

James, welcome to the forums.

Since your pony is a 2006, it is possible, depending on the build date, that you'll be at risk. I think the TSB states build date before 12/11/2006 as the turnover date. I guess that is when the fix was introduced on the line.

GOD CARES ABOUT MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE OWNERS!

I am not kidding.

After two submissions and two denials, my TSB request has been approved and my top will be replaced.

The service manager at the dealer kept following up. They take digital images of TSB-related items and send them up. They are then approved or denied. He made more phone calls. Apparently there's a supervisor that tends exclusively to Mustang TSB's. He spoke with my service writer, took a look at the digital images, and basically said, "Yes, that's a clear case. He gets a new top."

A special thanks to Adam8G - your photo documentation impressed the service writer and was a key element in him following up.

So don't give up after one try. Do some research and be insistent but polite.

I'll have a replacement top in just a few weeks!

Update time - my top parts have come in, and I dropped her off this morning for the top replacement. Mike, my very helpful service writer, told me he should be able to get it back to me later today.

I also had this TSB done, but my dealership did not have to take any pics or get any approval, they just fixed it. Good to see they are taking care of you. The only thing that ****ed me off was that since they were taking the top off, I wanted to switch to a cloth top and told the dealer that I would pay for the difference, but they would not do it. Actually the dealer was willing to, but FOMOCO would not allow it. They said that whatever came on the car, has to go back on the car. Customer Service at its FINEST!!

Actually it's understandable. They warrant the parts the car is built with.
If you had the issue again, and they had replaced your top with a cloth one at this first incidence, IF they approved replacement a second time, because you'd have a non-original top, they'd be replacing it with what the car was built with, not a cloth top.

I actually told the dealer that they could take the warranty off of the top if they replaced it with the cloth top. The dealer even told FOMOCO the same thing, but no go. When I am out of warranty and I need to change the top, I will have a cloth top put on.

I've got 900 miles left on my warranty and I'm getting nervous about my top. Maybe I need to take it in before its too late. I'd love to get a cloth top. How much would a cloth top be from the dealer? I wonder if I can take possession of a new vinyl top via warrantee (in a box) and then sell it to someone out of warrantee... and then buy a new cloth top. Its a long way about it but I'd really like a cloth top.

Just checked my vert and the build date (on the door) was 12/11/06 . So far I do not see any of the signs ya'll say to look for. Let's hope for the best and that there were no "left over old parts" .

Well, it appears that they are now including the black cloth top in the TSB. I wonder if that means that you can now get the cloth instead of the vinyl, or if you still have to get original for original.

I've heard that go both ways, Mike. I have heard some pay extra for the cloth top and get it, and other folks told they had to replace vinyl with vinyl. Sometimes I think it has as much to do with the dealer as it does with Ford.

The cloth top is nice looking, but not enough difference for me to worry about it. When mine was built, the cloth top was not yet available anyway. So it remains true to the original build.

My car is going in next week to get the top replaced. I have 2 months before the warranty expires, but they are honoring the TSB. I really wanted to get the cloth top, but they said they called Ford who said original equipment only. Oh well, at least I now don't have to worry about the top for some time to come.

Cheers

Got the car back today with the new top installed. I did notice that the new top has a slightly different rear window treatment than my old top. Looks good.

Cheers
