Ok,
The first time it broke, you couldn't downshift.
This time you can't upshift. When you go to shift, it will not go into gear. Argh.

Some have almost a 2 step engagement on gears, others tend to be a little tight.

Mine acts like that on most shifts even with the Tri-ax shifter. Hard to get a "straight shot" when shifting. Haven't tried a power shift yet for that very reason.....

Turns out Ralph is fine. Just suffering from the third gear blues. We are going to replace the shifter on the car.

I own 2 '06 GT manuals....one shifts nice and clean the other is clunky...and has been from day 1. Now at 4000 miles. Sometimes it seems to me the clunk is coming from the differential rather than the gear box. Both cars have had their differential clutch packs replaced for the low speed moan and groan. But I still wonder about the ring and pinion set.

Third Gear is a bizzitch. That I have definitely noticed.
It shifts like a sports car, We are paranoid its going to break again. I had it checked out yesterday, and it got a clean bill of health.

I have custody of the car for a week, and I haven't noticed anything bad about it. It has no skipper 500, so it isn't loud like mine, But I am quickly falling in love with it!!

How many miles on your car? Mine had a tiny clunk the first 2500 miles until everything wore in, now it's smooth at 5k.

I hve 68K+ on mine and just changed the tranie and dif lube to royal purpe, and much improvement no more problem with 1st or reverse, still just a little clunkie but no mor double clutching just to get her in to gear

I'm curious... how many here have tried switching to Texaco / Havoline non-synthetic Dex III / Mercon ATF like Tremec suggested? If so, what were the results?

Are they using Mobil 1 (Mercon/Mercon-V spec) or a non-synthetic DexIII/Mercon?

In any case, I am basically falling in love with the manual transmission. That's how a mustang is supposed to be driven!!

I haven't really noticed an issue, just third is a PITA to get into. Maybe its paranoia. If it does break though, its under warranty.

Now too bad this transmission isn't placed in my lovely banana yellow mustang.

I've read multiple times here that the tendency for the engine and trans to "torque twist" causes the operator to "miss" 3rd gear. Supposedly a short-throw shifter will fix this problem but I think it is due to lack of proper bracing for the shifter to keep it aligned with the transmission (TR-6060 has dual braces, TR-3650 has only 1 brace).

Does this happen all the time (even during moderate daily driving) or just under WOT runs?

Did you replace the shifter yet?

http://www.steeda.com/products/steeda_triax_shifter.php

Like the tens of thousands of Tri-Ax shifters that came before it, this Tri-Ax carries over many of the same great features like an extremely short throw, precise action, stop-bolts to prevent damage to the transmission and linkage under hard usage, our two-position handle height, and internal spring tension to assist you in never missing 3rd gear! This last feature is exclusive to the 05 Tri-Ax and not found in any other 05-07 shifter

Not all manuals are bad - don't let this lemon of a TR-3650 represent all manual transmissions!

Nah, its just that I can slam mine to the floor and be gone before they knew I was there. I have grown lazy driving an auto for two years, this new addition is all new to me, Its the first time ever I have been turned loose with it. (We switched cars for a week to see how the other side lives). I have decided I like being lazy and winning peeing contests.

I don't do shifting as well- And Yes, My car has beaten his car numerous times. I guess theres a first time for everything though. This was my first tail whupping.

Other than that, now that I am used to driving it, its not so rough as I thought it was when I was driving it for about ten minutes a month. I think the transmission is just fine.

Was she driving a V6? I assumed she had a GT. The GT500 gets a TR-6060
My 2007 FSM lists the V6 as having a T5OD.

I never have a problem hitting 3rd gear, even WOT. Maybe I'm lucky, knock on wood, but there's no trouble at all, and I've only been driving stick since I got this car, 3,800 miles ago.
