1newStang and Radaman.

I'm trying to uderstand what exactly we're talking about? Is it behind the dash inside the glovebox area or in the door jamb area with the door open.

Help me understand. Thanks.

Redfire,
The rattle is coming from the door jam piece..It's just easier to get to from under the dash...The half oval piece unsnaps from the inside out...Remove it...Now just stuff some Rubber tape or some stripping in between were the dash and the door pieces lay on top of each other..Above and below where the oval piece came out...No tools neccesary for this, except maybe a small screwdriver to help wedge the pieces of rubber or stripping in to place..
I hope this helps..

Mine is a loud tick that happens when I go over bumps, but it sounds like it coming from the same areas you just described. I had it to the dealer 3 times for this they insulated and siliconed the entire passenger dash, it still does it. I am going to try what you guys just said, will let you know how it turns out. Maybe we can create a TSB ourselves to give the the dealers

*darn typos*

Well I spent over an hour riding arournd got it to do the noise a few times had my brother go with me to stick his head in the glovebox. it's deffinetly coming from the middle to right on the passengers side but I checked all the plugins, attachments, plastic joints and shook them, tapped them and still nothing it only does it while the car is going over bumps. The only thing I can't get to is this black box thats up in the dash, could be something to do with ventilation but thats the only place I can think of it wouold come from. I am taking it back to the dealer on Saturday to see what they can come up with.

Could someone snap a quick picture of where this is? I have this stupid rattle also. I removed the entire door panel trying to find it but to no avail.

I think I know where we are talking about but not totally sure.

I hope this helps..The arrows are where I placed pieces of rubber tape under the edges and are unseen..You can also see I removed the half oval piece on the side on the dash..Thats so I could give the dash some flex and get the rubber between the two edges..Rattle is gone..

Thanks for posting the pic and sharing your info.

I don't believe it's the source of my dash rattle. Mine sounds like something right behind the airbag like most of the people here said. The dash cover sound like it's contributing as well.

But for the sake of trying I did secure that area and didn't have any luck. This is driving me crazy...hopefully Ford or one of us finds a solution soon. I need to have someone in the car with me so we can get to the bottom of this.

Redfire,
Thats where I thought mine was coming from..But it wasnt,I looked up under there and checked all the wiring, the vent tubs, airbag stuff..even had the dealer change the passanger side vent..
no go... It only took me a year to fine it..And 3 times adding more pieces of rubber..Try pushing very softly on those edges of the door jam molding right about where I put the arrows in the Pic..Inside and outside edges.. and see if you hear a soft tick sound..If so thats the rattle you hear when you your driving..Like I said I had to keep adding pieces over the course of 3 days..The first two times I would go out the next morning and push on that molding and the tick was back and so was the rattle..Just kept adding pieces till I finely got it..But of course now I have a new rattle coming from inside the passanger door..Sounds like a wiring harness came loose :bang: :bang: I guess even after a year with her we are still bonding

No it was not a tick kind of noise while going over a bumps..It was a full blown rattle while driving..But it would only do it when it was cool or cold outside..as the weather got warmer during the day it would stop..

Well I think I have found the problem. I shoved felt EVERYWHERE in the door jam and nothing helped. Then I was messing around near the windshield on the passengers side and noticed something strange. The drivers side has a solid sound when I tap on it but for about half the pannel on the passengers side it sounds hollow and makes a click noise down by the glass when I push on it, So I think thats it. I would not be surprised at all if Ford forgot to put something under that when they built the car. I will post here when I find out. For reference the area I am talking about is the plastic piece that runs up next to the windshield on the passengers side inside the car. Anyone else notice this about theirs?

Well, here I am again. Problem not fixed the pannel was out of place. The "tick" is still there. I think it's coming from the center console and going towards the passenger side up by the glass. I really hope to find this. If I do I will post it.

Well, add me to the list. I have 2 rattle sounds in the dash. One in the middle and one on the driver's side. Both go away when I put pressure on the areas with my hand. It drives me nuts, had the car less than a year, and it sounds like it's coming apart!

Also, I have a strange noise coming from the rear passenger area.

All of these noises started happening when the weather got cooler, and it seems that's a common factor with everyone. Why would it only be when it's cold?

Anyway, I don't plan on driving much this winter, guess I'll see if they're still there in the spring.

Whats the strange noise sound like? Also since the interior is basically hard plastic on hard plastic when it gets cold, plastic parts tend to contract slightly and then you have a few milimeters space that was not there before and thus a rattle as they touch. At least thats what I have learned. Still my noise baffels the poo out of my service department, I really don't get it either.

Vistablue I think you were on the right track with right front part of the dash that meets with the pillar and windshield. I was convinced it was coming from behind the passenger side airbag but like 1Newstang said it not the source. I'm going to stuff something between the end of the dash and the A pillar molding and see if it goes away or quiets it down.

Me with a passenger should be able to get this resolved (hopefully). When I do I'll post the results.

Mine also rattles but it is on the driver's side. It also goes away when it warms up. Took it to the dealer last week and they couldn't duplicate the problem-imagine that! When it starts rattling I can put my hand on top of the far left hand side of the dash and the rattle goes away. If someone can get there dealer to fix the problem, could you please elaborate what they did.
I have basically a similar problem. My rattle is on the piece that goes up betweeen the drivers side front windshield and the drivers window. When it got cold here it started to rattle at times, but I can put my hand on it and it will stop. I usually just turn the music up so I don't hear it.

Okay, ladies and gents, here's my rattle list:

UPDATE: To help locate the dash rattle, start your car and put into drive, which causes your steering column to "free up". Next, tap your steering wheel from the bottom up and to the right. The vibration should cause the passenger side dash to rattle somewhere, which will help locate a source for those with such issues. ALSO: This works even better while driving around for some reason, so do it at stop lights to really annoy yourself and have fun at the same time.

1) Front passenger side -- somewhere near dash/door -- if I press down on the center of the passenger side dash, rattle stops (kind of)
2) Front/Middle drivers side -- right behind my left ear -- no idea why
3) Rear -- somewhere -- no idea why

No. 2 & 3 just started a week ago with arrival of cold weather.

I really admire some of you for going all-out to help fellow owners. I will try the whole take-glove-box-out-dashboard thingy. Look forward to more replies on this thread.
