Rattle no more!
I have found a fix for some rattles that have been haunting me and Christina (my 05 SSGT) for about 2-3 months. The dealers are numb to the issue, and it was kind of fun to figure out the cause of the problem anyway. There were four major rattles/squeaks that have been giving me trouble and that i had not seen a fix for on here. So forgive me if i am reposting a fix...I had not seen any of these specific issues addressed yet. Some might not believe that they were a big deal, but i HATE RATTLES I can't stand tic tacs because they rattle in my pocket...but i digress. here are some of my rattles and the fixes i found. Happy New Year everyone!!
PROBLEM....my solution:
1. Mirror rattles over bumps and severely going over any bump, fast or slow....took mirror off of door, placed double stick tape on side of mirror housing that contacts the door frame
2. Top of Door squeaks or 'taps' b/n 30mph and about 60 the worst, though it can happen any time especially with the shaker goin. or with any encounter of bumps in the road from reflectors to potholes........My Solution the mechanical door handle opening has a wafer thin plastic snap in piece that covers up screw holes in the door handle cubby i took double stick tape and replaced it, it snugged it up and no rattle.
3. passenger side of Dash rattles with bumps (not the IUP part of the dash, but the horizontal one piece that extends across the whole dash) especially at highway speeds......placed soft foam material in b/n the dash and where it interfaces the frame of the car that supports the windshield.
4. Instrument cluster squeaks during driving.....no fix yet...
if anyone has a fix, let me know.

Got two more for you guys and gals, hopefully I can describe them well.
Rapid "Ticking" or buzzing sound from door panels, w/ Shaker 500 subs pounding. Usually sympathetic to certain bass notes. The storage hole or compartment in the door below the armrest is a two piece design. Inside the hole, between the bottom of the compartment floor and the outer plastic lip/mouth is a tiny gap where the two pieces of plastic can rub against each other causing the buzzing sound. Stuff a long strip of foam weatherstripping inside the hole between the two peices, including up and around the top edges (some of the worst buzzing can come from right there).
The other one I haven't quite been able to get rid of is the black styrofoam piece inside the door panels will squeak or buzz on certain bass notes (yeah that awful styrofoam squeaking sound, yechk!) . I stuffed some weatherstripping in between it and the door panel at the bottom, but other parts of it were so tight I couldn't stuff anything in there. Maybe over time it will rub itself out.

Check out your cluster squeak it may be that like mine, the accelerator pivot was dry and squeaked while underway. It was sprayed with silicone lube and the squeak was gone. However ,I do have a rattle in that area since the cold weather arrived.
I had a squeak just below the tach, and I could stop it by pushing on the dash piece there. Dealership put some foam tape in there and stopped it. Now however I can hear another one somewhere on the passenger side. I'll have to get that fixed later.
If the back of the door panels are made of styrofoam like in a C5 Corvette they will squeek against the door frame. I was able to stop 100% of squeeks by removing them and completely covering the styrofoam with black duct tape.

I recently noticed that the Shaker 500 subs were causing the driver side window switches to rattle. When I pressed on them it would stop. Last night I took that piece apart and put small felt pads in between the window switch control module and the piece that houses it and that rattle is gone.

Man...I wish I'd have seen this thread last week- had my doorpanels off to seal inside bottoms...the duct tape over the foam is an excellent idea. if mine ever starts squeakin, I know what to do first- Thanks!!!
BTW- anyone have ANY idea what the logic is with the rear drains having those loose fitting 'plugs' snapped in? I took mine out, and havent heard any wind noise or anything, just for the life of me, I dont understand what they could be for(except possibly to clog with dirt and make you need a rust free one in 5-6 years...)

How do you put foam under the dash? Does the entire dash come off? I have a tinny sounding buzz coming from the middle of the dash. It happens when I get on the gas and its buzzes because of the interior resonance.
