Question about Motorcrafts parts vs others..

Was not sure where to post this but I thought I would post it hear since there is more activity.

Looks like the fuel pump in my 03 has taken a dump. Sooo, I call up the local Ford people and they want 400 dollars and some change for a new one. I cant remember the exact amount but it was like 459 or something. I only need the pump and not the sending unit and all but they could not seperate it they said.

So, I check with O'reillys Parts store and they want 202 for the whole thing or 109 for the pump only. Its an Airtex brand the guy said. I ask why so much cheaper and he did not know of course but said they have good luck out of them on Fords but not Gm's. Says it should be just as good.

I am sure Ford buys the pumps from somebody but what do you guys think about this? I know once my buddy had a 84 gt and bought lifetime starters from Advance Auto or somebody and was back in there every year getting a new one. Of course it was a pain in the butt to change and labor was not included. What is your thinking on buying fuel pumps from somebody other than Ford?
