Programing the Smart Junction Box (SJB)

I had the passengers side water leak that seems to be common. Water would run down into the smart junction box and would cause electrical problems like no lights, key fob wouldn't work no dash lights etc.. Dealer repaired leak and replaced the SJB and the carpet pad. The car is equipped with active anti-theft. Previously the key fob worked just as the owners manual states: Push button once -lights flash doors lock, Push twice- lights flash and horn chirps once and the alarm is armed .
Since the SJB change: Push fob button once no lights, doors lock, push twice horn chirps twice no lights, like it would before if a door, trunk or hood was left open but the alarm still arms . I brought this to the dealers attention, after what they said was a day trying to figure it out they finally blamed it on my sequential turn signals.

I do have two wires spliced into the harness that goes to the SJB because I have my brake lights set up to work as normal and not sequence when I hit the brakes. but it worked fine with them before. Ive heard of people getting the SJB replaced and now they have DRL's because of the programing. I plan on disconncting the sequentials and make them try again. I think it's a programing problem. Any one have any ideas or experience with this problem?

But if it worked with the sesquentials , something on their end , like maybe they goofed on reprogramming the fobs ? It tells you how in the book.

My 06 (build Feb-06) has done this from day 1. It only flashes the lights when I unlock the doors with the fob. It's always bugged the crap out of me.

If they are not required the dealer can turn them off via a software in the SJB

I also had my Smart (Dumb) Junction Box changed in my 2005 Mustang. I noticed this UNAUTHORIZED modification before I left the dealership. I drove back in and pointed it out, and that I needed to have control of MY lights.

I was told "no problem" they plugged the computer into the car and 3 minutes later my lights were working as they originally were. No more 'Forced Lighting' (a.k.a. Daytime Running Lights the driver cannot turn off.)

General Motors has petitioned the government on two separate occasions to mandate Forced Lighting (aka DRLs) in the US. In both instances, the government turned General Motors down citing NO safety evidence. Far from being considered a 'safety feature', manufacturers and the motoring press are treating DRLs as a 'stylish addition' to a car, concentrating on the look of DRLs as adding character to a car rather than contributing to its safety.

A British study said that statistics about DRLs from eight European countries over a 15-year period show that road fatality rates dropped faster in non-DRL countries such as Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands than fatalities in pro-DRL countries such as Finland, Norway and Sweden. Indeed, Austria has gone as far as to BAN Daytime Running Lights.

Toyota has chosen the proper approach. ALL 2017 Toyota's have "DRL OFF" on the light switch. If you want to drive with lights on during the daytime, you can, if you don't want to, you can turn them off. Makes everyone happy. These are true, Daytime Running Lights. What Ford now has, and some others have, is actually called, ‘Forced Lighting’. With Forced Lighting, the driver has NO control, and is at the total mercy of the junior programmers in Detroit or Japan.

There are many instances where you don't want your lights on, Drive-In movies, waiting outside at night for someone etc. You will notice most law enforcement vehicles have their daytime running lights disabled.

You need to find a dealer that knows how to program a SJB. Most are just too lazy, but it can be done.

Digging up an old thread, but for anyone who has had this done: what did you end up paying the stealership? Thanks.

I had to have my SJB replaced. The gas gauge went down to empty and I got an error message something about data and then the check engine light came on. I was charged by my dealer $943.07 to install a new SJB and reprogram my two key fobs. . Now my car is smart again and no problems.

Electrical issues

I found a pigtail connector that goes connects into the back of the air control system in the dash below the radio is very touchy. If it's bumbed or any of the wires are messed with "and there is no extra wire on this part of the harness". It can cause all kinds of issues. I could literally reach behind the dash, wiggle this connector and start my car. I've lost my lights, all my air control, heated seats, dash lights, all kinds of stuff and it comes and goes if that pigtail is messed with. If anyone knows an affordable way to have it replaced. Please let me know m I've gone to the dealership and apperently they don't make these replacements because of they didn't have an exact blueprint on the wiring of this car and theirs multiple different ways the factories completed these builds.

Perhaps This Info Will Be Useful. Does This Look Like What you are Chasing If So!

The Larger Connector Does Not List a Repair Pigtail. You Could Snip One at a Wrecking Yard . The Small One Does List Repair Pigtail!
