Does it serve any real purpose? Can you get zapped by touching the terminal?

it's only DC current, and you need to be grounded to get zapped..

so yeah.. it's a bad idea to touch the positive lead while standing barefoot, so i guess the cover isn't so bad after all

EDIT: oh.. and mine doesn't stay on either

Do you guys who's cover won't stay on drive with your hoods open?
Mine had never budged in 2 years until I messed with it this morning for this thread. Now it will probably fly off the minute I hit the interstate!

Lol, it wont fly off, but I think once you remove it to take the battery out, it never goes back the same way.

They made me tape it down for tech for the road course

it serves no purpose other then to protect a tool from being laid across the terminal. No you won't get shocked touching it, grounded or not.

I got tired of mine not staying on properly, too...so, I spent a little time (maybe 5 minutes) bending it a bit to stay on correctly and now it looks good!

Yeah that thing is useless once you remove it. On another note... I can NEVER seem to get my negative terminal unhooked. I loosened the bolt and completely unscrewed it at one point, and it wont come loose. Im beginning to think the dealer superglued it on there to get back at me.

Take a screwdriver and pry it upwards. Be careful not to break off the terminal on the battery though. Sometimes they get a little stuck, but nothing a little elbow grease can't deal with.

Mine hasn't budged since new, but I've not removed it since then either.

+1. Just found that out the other day. So instead I disconnected the + terminal. Is that bad? Kinda scared me when it sparked while putting it back on.
