Jumpy idle

Have an 07 4.0 likes to die on me. This morning the rpm went from zero to almost 2 up and down while idling then died. Any ideas?

Welcome,

Could Be a Host Of Things. First Thing To Do is Get It Checked For Codes. Many Parts Houses Will Check For Free! Even if The Check Engine Light is Not on Does Not Mean a Code or Two Could Be Lurking.

Usual Suspects. Dirty T/B & MAF, Vacuum Leak and Bad Engine Sensor.

Also Did This Just Come out of The Blue??

Any Work at All Done on the Car Recently??

Was Car Exposed To Heavy Rain Recently??

How Long Have You Had Car??

Miles on Car and Overall Condition??

Well Maintained??

A Pic of Engine Would Show Overall Shape of Engine! A Bit Better To Advise!

Just bought the car. I’ve had a lot of things fixed on it it’s pretty much brand new now except for the body has a few dents . Pic of engine will be attached. The fuel trims are perfect on it now they weren’t before because aftermarket intake was on it and bad egr and injectors. I just cleaned the tb and the mas was changed. As well as the fuel filter, pump, fuel injectors. Egr. Struts lower control arms. Tires brakes fluids valve cover gaskets It has been raining off and on not sure how that would effect it. Also i can turn the car off and back on then it runs fine after it dies. Its like its possessed lol. Ty for your time.

Engine 4.0

Sounds Like You Have Covered a Lot of Bases. The 05-09 Mustang Gets All Kinds of Weird Things Going on if The Cowl Gets Waterlogged and The SJB Gets Wet. Always a Good Thing To Check With a New S-197 Purchase Regardless if You Have Had Issues or Not. It Bites a Lot of Folks in the Behind! It Does Not Have to Be a Deluge Just Some Water Trickling in The Wrong Spot.

To Illustrate How One Little Wire or Bad Connection This is a Good Vid To Watch. It Gave Me a New Respect For Electrical Issues. Also on Post 4 Check Out The Wiper Issue. Just Anoter Little Hidden Issue on The S-197 as it gets Older.

Had a Thought, May Have Throttle Body Motor or Pedal/Sensor Going Bad. Would Not Hurt To Put Some Contact Cleaner on Throttle Body ETC Connector and Pedal Connector & Try Also To Clean Pedal TPS Sensor Itself & See if That Helps.

yes sir ty for your help I sprayed the throttle body and changed the mas sensor. It finally threw a code p0193 which is fuel line rail pressure sensor. Going to change that tomorrow see if that does the trick. If not then back in the shop lol

I Did Ford Dealership Parts For 30+ Years and Many a Customer Told Me over The Years When it Comes To Electrical Sensors Many times The FORD\MOTORCRAFT Stuff Was The Only Thing That Fixed The Issue after Trying Aftermarket. Just an FYI. Choose For Yourself Here are Some Options! I Do Like Bosch in Aftermarket Though!

Often mounted directly into the Fuel Rail under the hood, or a fuel line very close to the fuel rail.

Reads and reports liquid fuel pressure entering the engine via the Fuel Rail
Controls the fuel pump output and fuel injector open time / pulse width
Code P0087, P0455 or P0088, P0191 or P0192 indicate sensor failure
