I saw my flutter today at 80mph. Granted, it was a little windy, but it didn't make me too comfortable watching it. Btw, great day to finally drive it topless!!

With the window tint dark enough, you can drive it topless year round...
couldn't resist

This is disturbing!! The more I hear this kind of crap, it makes me hesitate to "pull the trigger" and place an order for an '05.

I saw the incident on Speed Channel as well... doesn't make me too happy at all. Ford knows this is a car built to move. This is something that should have been fix in the early prototypes of the car. My hood starts doing the mambo at around 110- 120, and I've seen it happen at the track as well. Drives me crazy, it's embarassing at the track (especially when ricers with Honda hoods don't rattle), and I don't want hood pins... my black paint is flawless. Hopefully there will be a TSB about this problem soon.

Bad form, ford!

I've got it too... I'm guessing everyone does but might not notice it.
Maybe it's the color that makes it more obvious... not sure.
I think it's the material of the hood that makes it wave like this.
It's almost like a flexing piece of aluminum at speed.
I believe it is aluminum. Ford used a lot of weight saving measures on the front end to get the balance closer to 50/50 front rear weight distribution. One of them was aluminum hoods and front fenders. They also used an all aluminum engine instead of a cast iron block, and moved the battery back against the firewall.

If you're going to do a lot of high speed stuff you should probably get hood pins or do something else to hold it down.

Why would you let a couple of things some people "may" be experiencing persuade you to not buy one?

I was in a $60k Cadillac the other day and the hood wavered all over the place at 80. Crap happens when you are nearing triple digit speeds .... Shouldn't be going that fast on public streets anyway ...

snkbtn99, good points. However, people like me bought the car so we could go really fast, if we wanted to do so, even if we don't. So, having a car, with a hood that vibrates, like crazy, at 70+ mph, makes me feel as if I have a "pretend" sports car.

Mine does this as well at 80mph. Its driving me crazy. I tried to adjust the rubber stoppers up some to apply a litte more pressure back against the hood and this did not help.

I don't like the idea of hood pins, but my wife drives this car and I know she has a lead foot. I'm worried this hood is going to release and fly back into the windshield while she is driving it. I saw that happen to a taurus going down the highway and he went off into the median!

Is it too much to ask for "quality control" in the vehicle you're purchasing? ...even a Toyota Corolla has better quality control!

Did anyone watch the daytona race on the weekend? The Cammer mustang had 4 hood pins installed and they still lost the hood.

I didn't see the race. Did the hood lift and then fly off, from the front of the hood where the four pins are (which I would assume happened), or from the back where the hinges are? Or did it happen so fast you couldn't tell?

Any details?

Thanks

I have had mine up to 125, just on Sunday in fact, and have had no hood lift. Lucky I guess. After reading this thread, I think I will get some sort of hood pins. I think they look cool anyway.

I think the Titlist treatment, get a ball peen hammer and put little dimples all over the hood would fix everything, or just SLOW DOWN.

I've seen hi speed hood flutter on my 05 GT at 125 with a bad crosswind but it was smooth as a baby's butt at 145 on a calm day. I definitly think it's related to crosswind and depends on just how it gets under the hood. I was at 90 mph in a Volvo 142 and the hood flew up next to an 18 wheeler on a right hand curve. The turbulance from the wheels got under the hood and I saw it flutter momemtarily and then it blew. It was a little exciting for a while. Just keep your head, concentrate on the left hand road stripe and you'll be fine.

I've seen mine start to flutter a little at the posted speed limit...

I have a 2005 GT with the Roush Sport package. I have had my hood flutter (3) times already all going over 100+. I thought it was going to fly off the 1st time pulled over checked the hood and it was tight. This is a big problem I think Ford needs to address.

Maybe the fenders are not lined up right, creating too much gap between the hood, and the fenders. I don,t have the hood shake, and I can barely fit a quarter between the hood and the fenders.
