Gas tank issue part 2
Had the gas tank replaced under warranty exactly 4 weeks ago today and everything was working fine... But today when I tried to fill up, the pump (same gas station I always go to) shut off after 2 gallons again!!! How many times will they replace the tank under warranty and who will gurantee that it won't happen again next time??? Man, I'm mad right now!!
Anybody else experienced the same?

Keep after them until they get it working properly. My '05 worked great after they replaced the tank. The '06 I traded up to has been perfect also, haven't had to get the tank replaced.

I sure wish someone would come up with the definitive "cure". While I have never had any problems with the '05 GT, I've only found one station so far (have tried 4-5 different places) that hasn't caused difficulties when filling up the '07.
BTW, I only use BP.

There's got to be someone at Ford that has the definate solution for this problem, but its probably "too expensive" in the eye's of Ford's execs for them to deal with.

Mine did it yesterday. Shell stations work just fine. However, at a BP station yesterday (of course it is high 90-degree heat here in Kansas) I tried to fill her and it kept shutting off prematurely. I remembered someone saying you should rotate the filler around - upside-down, and guess what? That worked!

There are probably several variables in play with the gas tank filling issue....which include the filler neck diameter, the angle of the filler neck and where and how it attaches to the tank. Fuel nozzles shut off, when the gas fills up to the end of the nozzle and triggers the air valve in the end of the nozzle. When pumping gas into the tank, the air inside the tank is displaced by the gas coming in....the air needs a place to go and normally rushes back up the filler neck and exits. If the filler neck is restricted, either by the nozzle or something else, the air can't escape.....so the air that is trapped in the tank, will push gas back up the filler neck, in a bubbling or burbling effect...triggering the nozzle shut off before the tank is full. Sometimes, just the speed of the gas going in can do this, as the tank can't get rid of the air, as fast as the gas is coming in. Generally, reducing the speed of the gas flow will help....as in setting the little latch on the nozzle at half speed, instead of full speed. Different gas stations will have different gas pumping speeds as well as different angles on the gas nozzles...which would probably explain why some stations work better than others. In general, if you're having a problem with the nozzle shutting off before the tank is full, slowing down the rate of gas flow or rotating the tip of the nozzle, so that the gas that backs up the filler neck doesn't trip the auto shut off, should help. It takes longer to fuel up this way and it's a pain in the rear, but it's about the only thing that will help alleviate the problem.

It really isn't a problem as long as I don't come in to a station somewhere that it won't work at all. Of course, my rule is to never let the gauge get much below a quarter tank anyway.

The tank vents through a canister to eliminate fumes getting to the atmosphere and Ford has had problems on other vehicles with this too. A friends 02 Taurus has the same problem mine did. My tank was replaced and it is almost perfect. I can live with it now. Sometimes I have to restart the fuel flow once or twice but it seems to work better with the fuel handle full blast.

My car used to do it at almost EVERY pump, but I've finally found a remedy.
All I do is take about 3 seconds to engage full fuel flow (say that 3x fast). After that, it continues flowing until it's full (knock-wood)

It is amazing that this is still a problem. I thought Ford fixed the problem with the late build date 05s. My car was built in June 05 and I have never had a problem. I just put the pump handle on the auto shutoff mode and let it fill up. It always fills totally and it shuts off when it is full. I hope you guys get Ford to figure it out.

Ford does not care
I have been dealing with Ford consumes care for a week now and the reply I gat today was that there is no problem with the gas tank eventhough we have been told it was a poor design. I was told to take it to a dealer and they will tell me there is no fix so therfore there is no problem because if there was a problem the we(Ford) would have a fix for it and that was to to me by a Ford customes care specialist who is name is Abbe Bush Phone number 866-631-3788 ex 7032 or 800-392-3673 the other customer care center
Who ever is haveing the same type of problem should call and let them know it is a problem that needs fixed.

Well if you were told by a Ford representative that it was a "poor design" and you are having a problem with it, then it is something that Ford should fix for you! I've never heard of a car that you can't put gas in it!! All of you people that are having a problem need to get together and contact someone higher up the chain in Ford to get it resolved. If the person you are talking to can't help you then remember he/she has a boss. You would think it would also be a safety issue because it deals wiht a flammable liquid.

I did that until I got tired of looking like a fool when filling up... Little update: tried another gas station Saturday morning, and there it worked fine... I'll watch this and if it gets like before (not being able to fill up normally at ANY gas station) I will take it in...
Keep you updated!

you're not alone..
everyone here down in sunny dubai has the same problem.
i tried every trick in the book.. hold the filler nozzle upside down, fill with the nozzle outside the filler pipe (so the air build up theory isn't exactly accurate) and even tried to clean out the EVAP canister filter as described somewhere as a definitive cure..
no luck.
i think the problem lies within this EVAP canister system.. the purge solenoid or something related.

Latest Update:
Took it in Saturday to make another appointment to have this fixed, but the only thing they gave me was the phone number of Ford's Corporate Headquarters... No appointment, only: "You already have the redesigned tank now, there's nothing we can do for you..."
What a bunch of BS!
Any advise?

There must be a real car issue causing your problem because I live here where it gets hot with no problems filling up, so the heat does not cause any problem. You've got to have something causing some kind of back pressure shutting off the pump. Good luck!!
