Ford Maintenance Plan - is it worth it?
Ford Maintenance Plan - is it worth it?
Hey folks,
I purchased an Extended Maintenance Plan from my dealer when I purchased my 08 GT/CS. It was $1200. I was skeptical at the time and I am still wondering if it was worth it. I have the option to cancel it anytime. Does anyone else have this plan and know what exactly it includes?

Sounds like a deal at the time, but if you really think about it...it probably is not such a great deal. If it includes all scheduled maintenance, it would probably include
1) oil changes, which are super easy and fun to do at home yourself for about $15 a pop
2) engine and cabin air filters, which again are super easy to do at home for under $20 each
3) fuel filter, which is a little trickier, but still not too hard to do at home
4) possibly includes tire rotation and balance. You can rotate tires at home easily, balance is no go, but I've never had to rebalance my Mustang's tires. Even if you do, they are usually like $10 a piece, so that's only $40.

I've always bought extended warranties since it was always easier to pay some money up front and not have to worry later if something went wrong. It's nice to have a bit of a security blanket. Not all warranties are equal either, so you have to watch what you buy.
With that said, I have always had a repair or two under an extended warranty, but the bad news is the cost of the repairs have never added up to the cost of the warranty.
It's a gamble. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose!
