Unhappy Check engine light no codes

My 2008 check engine light is on. I've taken it to the mechanic and he stated that it wasn't throwing any codes. He also thinks it might be the keep alive wire or a problem within the computer since he couldn't find any fuses blown. Anyone had this problem or have any suggestions?

That's a new one to me, don't recall hearing that before. Sounds really odd that there's nothing to show what set it off.

Is this a car that's new to you or have you had it a while? If you had it a while, any problems in the past that set off the CE light?

I bought it within the past year and it had the check engine light already on it but showed no codes. The previous owner was a friend and they had not had any issues either. I'm now trying to register the vehicle and need to get an inspection in Texas. It won't pass because of the check engine light so I took it to my aunt's mechanic. He stated it was possibly the keep alive wire or a problem with the computer because he couldn't find any blown fuses.

Have You Tried Disconnecting the Battery For 15 Minutes to Clear Check Engine & Then Driving it a Few Days & Seeing if it Stays Off??

I replaced the battery a couple months ago. Not sure if it was disconnected for more than 15 minutes. I'll try that and see what happens.

If The Check Engine Light is Still on after first Restart Do it Again & Give it a Couple of Hours.

I let it sit for 2 hours without the battery and the engine light immediately came back on. Any other suggestions?

All I Could Find That Maybe Useful is the Ford Shop Manual MIL Operation Sheet & Cluster Section. The Diagnostics to Track the Issue Down will Likely Require a Ford Specific Scan tool. It Can Be The Pcm itself the Instrument Cluster Itself or Any Bad Connections in the Wiring at At Least those two Points & I'm Sure Others.

It Looks Like You are Dealership Bound At This Point But if Anybody Else has Run Into this Feel Free to Chime In! Some Independent Shops May Have the Proper Scanners So I Say Dealer Bound Because They Will Have Proper Scanners and also Latest Programming Updates!

I Have Also Included Shop Manual Section on Instrument Cluster to Give you an Idea of What is Involved. If You Scroll Down to Section R It Addresses MIL with No DTC Briefly. It's on Page 54 You Could Try R3 & R4 If You Want as Far As the Visual Check.

Don't Be Surprised if The Car Requires a PCM or Cluster and Ford Says it's Obsolete. They Can Be Sourced Either Used, Aftermarket Reman or Send In to Repair. If You Do Need Something and Your Servicing Shop is Not Willing to Chase the Part Lmk and I can Likely Find it For You.

Thank you so much for your help. I figured the next step would be the dealership. I guess we will see what happens. Once I find out what it was, I'll report back. Thanks again!

I've run into this once on an F150. The oil pressure sensor was defective and showed a service engine light. New o/p switch and it was golden again.

Did it show a code when scanned?

No codes. Check light only. While doing the inspection, saw oil from the sensor, so while there I swapped it out. CEL went out. Never came back on until it set an ABS code for the right front wheel sensor.
