Battery maintainer question

Being one of the many victims of the dead battery syndrome, I've been using the Batter Tender Plus for the past few months... with the dash power adapter plug option.... very happy with it. However, the other day someone questioned if the S197 adapter wiring was set up to draw in this type of current. I know it primarily works in float-charge mode, but other times (when battery is under 12.5v), it must be pulling higher current. Anyone happen to know if there's any risk to maintaining the battery via the dash adapter wiring over a prolonged time?

I can't see how. The battery tender is probably pushing 1-2 amps through the dash plug? And that is when it is actually pushing a charge. The rest of the time it's probably pushing like .1 amp or something tiny.

1 amp at 12 volts = 12 watts. Thats about enough juice to light up the interior dome lights. Don't worry about it.
