Automatic Trans Rolls in Park

Has anyone else had this? When you place the shifter in "park", the car rolls a bit either forward or back until something catches and a noise goes "snap". On previous cars this sometimes happened when parking on a hill and I think they called it "torque lock" or something like that....but this car does it almost all the time. I wonder if its internal in the trans, or just an adjustment of the linkage between the console & trans.

Does it make noise when it does this? Even when parking on a level surface? How far does it roll before it catches itself?

No, the only noise is at the end when it feels like something "catches" and it makes a snap sound and the car lurches to a stop. It doesn't roll far. Probably several inches. Yes, its on a level surface too. I don't think it happens if I pull the park brake lever before shifting into park - but I shouldn't have to do this every time. I'd say it does this 80% of the time I park.

Its normal I don't know exactly how to explain why it does this without posting pics of the internals of an automatic tranny but trust me its normal.

Absolutely. Don't worry about it.

pull the ebrake before putting your car in park and you won't hear the parking pin lock in.

Keep your foot on the brake when you put it in park and slowly release the brake there will still be some roll but it will be minimal. Nothing to worry about it has happened on my other mustangs as well, not to mention other cars.

I would say it is normal as well. Happens on most auto cars, some are just more noticable than others.

Same thing with mine...normal. I do as most have said, pull the ebrake while in drive at a stop, and then put it in park.
