Question Automatic refuses to shift to park

Hey all you fellow automatic enthusiasts out there. I have a problem with my shifter. Seems after the car warms up, it is difficult to put the car in park. I have to try it several times or just slam the heck out of the shifter to get it to engage park. Anyone else have this problem or know of a fix? I really don't want to take it to the dealership as my street is torn to pieces and muddy. Is it something I can fix in the comfort of my garage?

I think your belt might be the problem.
The shifter is on a belt, that rubber thing at the base.
On my friend's 05 it actually broke and got stuck.
I think you might be a few steps behind him.

You should probably stop by the dealer.

Hmmm. I know about that black belt thing. It rides along a track inside the "chrome" base piece. I also know that base piece is broken up underneath the dash -- the mounting tabs are broken. I bet you are right about this. Grrr. I bet I can order that base part and replace it myself without the worry of the dealer messing up my interior.
