Alternator failure
Mine died at 36500miles! right out of warranty! Consensus seems to be these cars have battery draining issues and that constantly having to recharge it wears out the stock alternator too fast.
bet beefed up brush/holders and diodes are available...the brush wires on our old pos windstar's starter fried, found one on ebay for 13 bucks- beats 144 for a starter. long ago parts stores used to carry stuff like piston seal kits for master/wheel cyls, brushes, etc...no more, they just sell chinese rebuilt crap...I went thru 3 rack and pinions for my mark VII before I got a good rebuild from the parts stores...lifetime warranty is no consolation when its a PITA to change out.

not certain these fit all years, but you can see parts are relatively cheep...a shame most parts stores dont stock the components anymore....usually doides fail first from what Ive heard

Does anyone know how difficult it is to change the diodes? If it's as simple as removing a cover from the back of the alternator I'll go ahead and do it myself. If it involves getting the pulley off I'll take it to a shop.
