405 miles and car keeps shutting down...

Friday night, noticed thin viscous, slightly yellow tinted fluid on garage floor. Thought it might be overflowed coolant, as the Ford coolant is now a thin yellow color. Car was fine all weekend. Last night, after taking son to soccer practice, another pool developed. No dummy lights, gauges all looked OK. This morning, start her up and she idles for a few seconds and shuts down. Start her up, drive a few blocks - same thing happens. Pull into Olathe Ford in the service area. I want to know what is going on with her and get her back in shape. Any ideas on what is happening to her? I really like the car, but after reading about all the issues with the Mustang, it scares me some. Plus, you don't want the wife saying "I told you so" when buying a Ford again!

Fuel Pump...

Hmmm..... it does remind me of that. My '89 GT did the same thing, but not for several years. Was/is there a problem with the fuel pumps on these cars? TSB?

my fuel pump went out the first day I owned the car. I laugh now.. I was wondering if the fuel cut off switch may/could be half way pushed down or some thing like that?? Just on the verge of cutting off and staying on. I don't think there are any tsb's for the 07 on the fuel pump.

Car shutting off...

Well, the car shut down three times yesterday morning. The leak was just a clamp overtightened either at the factory or when being prepped at the dealership. No biggie.

As for the engine shutoff problem, the dealership ran (according to them) every conceivable test: EEC, fuel pressure, error codes, etc., etc. After having it for testing all day, they said they could find nothing and couldn't get the car to replicate what it was doing to me. Brought her home at the end of the day, and (knock on wood), all is well.

Jayhawk,

We had this same thing happen with our car. It had 40 miles on it. The wife was driving the car down the road and the motor just quit running. No coughing, spitting, sputtering, NOTHING. We could only get it to restart by turning the key to the OFF position and restarting it. We nursed it home to the driveway. I fiddled with it by driving around the neighborhood and it died several times before getting it back into the driveway. Long story short. Tow truck picked it up at the house the next day and after several unsuccessful attempts FORD replaced the Computer. Runs like a champ now.

P.S. No codes showed up on ours either. They even "reprogrammed" the computer. No luck. So they finally installed a brand new computer and that worked!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Go K-State!!

This is an interesting topic, I just picked up my new 07 last weekend and have noticed the last few nights that when I push in the clutch when slowing down to stop the engine seems to choke out...it doesn't stall just sputters a little before recovering....this only happenning after I depress the clutch and start to downshift...just on the initial downshift not the subsequent ones. Also I just installed my AirRaid CAI last Tuesday so I wonder if that might be the source of my problem....no tunes just the CAI

my bet would be on the ecu...my new 93 explorer had a stalling problem from cold start after a few months of ownership. no codes were set and no lights on the dash...the dealer knew right away what had to be done...new ecu and no stalling. in their defense, the parameters on the ecu's are so tight due to the emmsision laws, that it doesn't take much to have a problem.
