I’m hoping someone here can help me as my local dealers haven’t been able to give me an answer.
The smart junction box has gone bad on my 2009 GT500 coupe and I haven’t been able to source an exact match for my car. I have however been able to source a similar junction box that was pulled from a 2007 GT500 coupe.
Assuming the features are the same from 2007 to 2009, will I be able to install this junction box and have it programmed to my vehicle? The Facebook groups and local dealerships haven’t been able to give me a straight answer (dealership is unsure, one person on Facebook said it should a simple reprogramming). I’d hate to waste money paying to program the new unit just for it not to work.
I’ve slowly been nursing this car back to its former glory and I’d hate to have a 800hp paperweight now due to a faulty junction box. Surely I can’t be the only one who’s dealt with this before. Thanks in advance for your help!
I don't remember all the specifics and details, but I'm pretty sure there are threads on here with the details about this ... try the search (top right) and hopefully you can find the existing threads; and be sure to search from the "top" of the forum structure and/or check all of the relevant sub-forums.
and meanwhile maybe someone who remembers the details will chime in

Thank you, Bert. After much googling and searching the forums I’ve yet to see an answer to whether a MY07 SJB will work on MY09. I just searched through the forum again and although many threads listed SJB issues and repairs, none have mentioned whether a different model year’s box will work.
Here’s to hoping someone who’s done something similar will chime in soon.
yeah the threads I remember weren't specifically about 2007 vs 2009 GT500, they were more about SJB repairs and programming in general ... I know those model years were very similar but don't know if the SJB was the same .... if you can look on line and find the part numbers, that might tell the story; but I think the model year might be part of the part number code, so even if they are physically the same, they might have different part numbers
One of The Problems With These Is The Sellers All Use Different Names For The Part and Pull Different ID Numbers From What They Should. I Believe Any 07-09 Box Can Be Reprogrammed To Work For You! Ideally a Gt-500 Coupe Box From 07-09 May Actually Plug & Play. {Well Close Anyway} Likely Have To Have All Keys & Transmitters Reprogrammed. The Vert Would Be Programmed Differently But Likely Can Be Reprogrammed if Good.
{ Sounds Like You Have a Good Candidate Already.} It May Actually Plug & Play And Just Have to Reprogram Fobs Yourself. Info Conflicts Depending on Where You Find it. Wish I Was still at The Old Dealership Where I Had Techs to Bounce Questions Off Of and Also I Would Call Ford Engineering if Need Be. Most Dealers Just Won't Dig More Than Surface Deep. Please Let us Know How it Works Out! NOTE When I Post I Try & Provide Extra Info For Later Viewers.
If You Still Want To Source a Closer One You Could Go Through These Auctions And See if Any Are 09 Gt-500's Your ID Number on Your Box Should Be Close to 9r3t-15604-b That is An ID Number. The Part Number I Believe is 9r3z15604b Replaced By 9r3z15604f. An Older Number is 8r3z15604a. Ford ID Numbers and Part Numbers Are Close But Just a Digit or Two Different. Also on These modules Yet another Part Number Tag That is Different Than What the Parts Catalog Says. Kit Number on Module is What We Called ID Numbers in the Parts Listings. The First Two Digits Indicate Year. 7R is 07 8R is 08 9R is 09 as an FYI.
I Am Not Plugged into FOMOCO Database as Much As I Used To Be and Am Using Available Internet Online Catalogs But Am Pretty Sure of My Conclusion. Pretty Crazy How Many Pop Up When You Know The Proper Search Numbers. A Ton of Them!
Thank you for your help! I’ve been able to allocate two junction boxes as the one currently on the vehicle has all but gone up in flames. My next course of action is figuring out how to prevent it from failing again.
When I opened my SJB, I noticed green residue all over the connectors and such. I’m assuming that’s a sign of water entry which led to its demise. Any tips on how to waterproof it or prevent this from happening again? Thanks!
