1 day old mustang

Started it to go take a quick drive and a high pitched screech (almost like something rattling or two pieces of metal hitting each other) happened when I turned the wheel. At first I thought it was power sterring was low. Checked that and it was full. Then thought maybe the brakes and no. It happened when the wheel was being moved.

Ideas anyone?

I am about to take it to the dealer to look at it tomorrow. It happened after a cold start. It did it for a few minutes and stopped. I am going to test drive it again in a few minutes to see if the problem persists.

Could be a bad belt? Or a bad power steering pump?

I have you note that the problem described above only happend once. It hasn't happened yet even though I have had a few cold starts since then. I guess it was a freak happening. I am still taking it to the dealer tomorrow just to make sure everything is alright.

So far, after 1 day of owning and 120 miles encounting, I love the Mustang and don't intend on getting rid of it anytime soon! ;-) Everytime I start the car, it gives me anothe reason to smile and why I enjoy making the monthly payment! haha

The noise has come back!!!!

It happens whenever I turn the steering wheel to the right. It appers to be the front left wheel making the noise. Possibly the rotor, brake, caliper? I live in a rocky/dusty area. Do you think a small pebble or dust has gotten into the rotor and therefore makes this scratching noise?

Well the roads up here dont have aspahlt. Theyre gravel. The car was fine, but when I first hear the noise yesterday was after I drove past a road that a crew just finished laying gravel on. Possible tar or gravel stuck somehow on the rotor or something???

Since the dealer is closed tomorrow I am thinking about pulling the front wheels off to check the rotors, brakes and calipers but theres a slight problem. I have the wheel locking kit. Is there a certain tool I can use to remove the one lug-nut on each rim?

When I first had the problem, it was only for 5 mins or so and then it disappeared. That was yesterday. Decided to take it to the dealer today just to make sure all is ok. All was good when I drove it home. When I went to go for a spin, I started again, this time when I went over a gravel road again. It is still doing now, hot or cold, every time I start the engine. When I turn the wheel to the right, I hear a squeaking/scratching type noise coming from the front tires. I am assuming the its front drivers tire because thats where the noise is the most audible.

I am leaving for Philly tomorrow and taking the Northeast Extension down. Hopefully high speeds on a non-gravel road might get juices flowing and knock out any pebbles or dirt stuck somewhere in the discs. If the problem persists, I have a feeling I will be taking it to a local Ford dealer while I am down there. (god, i can imagine the philly ford dealers...worst experience ever)

You should have received the wheel lock lug adapter with the car.....check in your glove compartment or in your center console. Your salesman should have shown it to you and how to use it. Does it make noise when you turn the steering wheel, without the wheels rolling or only when the wheels are rolling?

I've had a piece of gravel get stuck in the caliper on another car, and it make an awful screeching sound, but only when the car was moving. If you pull the wheel and don't find anything, I'd take it to the dealer, and let them check it out. They should be able to diagnose the problem pretty quck, as long as they can duplicate the problem.

Seems you have one of the limited NASCAR Edition Mustangs.

They only turn left.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Hope the dealer finds the problem quick.

If you don't find the lug key in the glovebox, check on the spare tire wrench. That's where it was on my '97 Cobra - tethered to the tire iron.

The only thing that's not clear from your post is whether it only does it while moving or does it also do it while standing still?

I am willing to bet it is a rock between the rotor and the dust shield on the back.

The problem has since gone away. The dealer looked at it 1 day after the first instance of the problem. They couldn't find anything. After a 100 mile trip with her, the problem went away. I am proud to say 2 months after owning, and 2300 miles later, I have had no other problems with the car. *knock on wood*
