i am having an issue with the interior of my door panels, the leather or imitation leather w/e it is, is coming loose i am just wondering if anyone has had this issue and if so what is the best long term fix.

 

Yeah my 06 GT just started doing this about a month ago I haven't really had the time to even think about fixing it yet.

What is usually happening is the thin layer of foam that backs the panel and creates a little bit of "give" then you press it is dry-rotting. A good upholstery shop can correct it for a very reasonable price. There's another thread somewhere about it too.

My driver door peeled, and my local upholstery shop fixed it up no problem. That foam has to be removed though, and it is best to remove all of it for a smooth looking re-install.

 

This is a common problem in warm and humid areas.. I know Volvo's and BMW's have this problem too - for some reason Mercedes are OK. They must do something differently..

 

Ditto...I had a yard of the red vinyl that Ford used in these cars and took it to a local upholstery shop. They removed the old viny and all traces of foam/adhesive and put on new (thicker) foam and vinyl, even in the rear area for $200.

Sure! Actually I had done the rear panels myself a few years ago, but the adhesive didn't hold up and eventually failed. However now that it's been done professionally I'm sure it will be there for the duration Oh and the silver tinsel welting is something I had on the doors, but the shop also put it on the rear panels.

 

I was lucky enough to have caught this right before my warranty expired. Took it in the week before 3yrs was up and they replaced both panels with no questions.

Guess I'll have to get it fixed when it happens again.
