Yet Another New Guy

Hi guys. I am re-building a 68 coupe. It is not drivable currently. I am getting it ready to go to paint next month. I need some help with a door hinge spring. I can find the bushing and pin rebuild kits, but not a replacement spring. It is the S spring like the one in the picture below. Can these be replaced? Mine is broken in half. Any help would be appreciated. As soon as I get the car finished I plan to drive it to one of the meets and join the club. I also have a (kind of recent) picture of my car below. It is a little further along now. Thanks!

I am leaning towards vapor (silver) metallic clearcoat that is on the 08 mustangs. I have to decide soon. I am open to any suggestions for a nice silver.

Nice car seems to be in good shape. I haven't ever seen a door hinge with a spring like that. But i found the whole thing on mustangsunlimited.com for 65 bucks. I can't find the spring itself though.

Also found them on cjponyparts for 55. Still no spring.

Thanks BA. It had more rust than I had originally thought, but I have cut it all out and replaced it with new.

I want to buy a new spring for a lot less than what the whole hinge costs. But I may have to buy the whole hinge.

Welcome! Feel free to post more pics of your progress as you go.

My silver is 1Q, but it's just a normal everyday Mustang silver.

I say go ahead and buy the whole hinge and spring.
I am as cheap as the next guy (actually cheaper),but its not really big money.
Especially if you can't find just the spring.
A new hinge will work best and I think you will find it worth the money.
There is a lot more force on those hinges than you might think.

Yes it is a 351 cleveland with the 4V CC heads. I went to buy a roller 302 from my buddy that builds ford engines for round track cars. He talked me into this 351C. He promised more HP for the same price. I have read where people say clevelands lack low end torque, but he says that it will have all that I want and more. I guess I will find out. I have a Z-spec T5 and a trac-loc 8.8 (from a 2000 explorer) with 3.73 gears. I think this combo will be fun to drive, and that is all I am looking for right now.

Thanks for the advice on the hinge spring.

It came with the Fram. It is just plugging a hole right now. I will probably put a purolator on it before I fire it up. What do you guys recommend for an oil filter?

I have never been one for overly expensive filters but I do want a good one that works correctly. Based on internet oil filter studies and info on www.bobistheoilguy.com I have been using the following.

Motorcraft
NAPPA/WIX
AC Delco
Purolator
STP

Based on the same info I have avoided the following:

FRAM
Pennzoil
Quaker State
