Wheel bearings

I know I havnt posted in awhile but just wanted to give an update. Its time again to do wheel bearings on the cobra. Ive been doing research and it looks like I have to torque the spindle lock nuts to 225-290 ft/lbs of torque. Thats some crazy torque and Im just double checking that everything is correct with that. Thanks guys

That doesn't sound right to me. I'd keep researching. I believe you'd crush the bearing with that much force.

i kind of thought so too but i have`nt worked on anything newer than 1980 ..maybe 225 to 295 inch lbs torque .. i dont think even a pinion nut goes 225 ft lbs ..

I kept researching and found something that said 150. I got a 1" ratchet and just tightened it very snugly. I have test driven it and everything is good. Thanks for the input guys

When I've done spindle nuts, I tighten to seat the bearing and then back off until the wheel spins freely. Put the cotter pin in and go.

Your car may be completely different, but make sure the wheel spins freely or you'll really chew some stuff up in a hurry.

That's how my 68 was mark. But I tightened the mess out of these and the hub was still spinning freely
