Tragedy

Well, I was driving the 68 down wall triana yesterday afternoon when a gentleman decides that it would be ok to make a wide turn into my lane. He caught me in the drivers door and worked his way all the way back to the end of my quarter panel... I barely managed to keep it out of a ditch so you can only imagine my joy. Just great right?? But to top it off the man had no insurance and it was not even his vehicle!!!!

I'd see maybe 2K for repairs. Your door, axle, and quarter panel will maybe cost you $500. That would leave you with $1500 for labor, paint, and any other needed parts which should be enough.

Throw a new quarter panel on there and you'll be better off. You might even check the other quarter and if it's loaded with as much plastic, have it replaced at the same time. Your Mustang might turn out better in the long run!

IF HE DIDN'T HAVE INSURANCE. you wont get anything from him, think do you think if he didn't care or couldn't afford to pay insurance is he gonna pay you. just file it with your insurance and let them go after him

Truly bites the big one, especially the "new found" damage...

Man I'm sorry to hear that. Did you file a police report? I agree it will be a struggle to get him to pay, but your insurance should kick in. You'll have to pay the deductible. You might also have to fight to save the vehicle from being "totalled". Insurance companies will want to use "blue book" and it won't come close to the true value of the car. That's why it's so important to have them appraised.

Let me know if you need anything. I've been right where you are before. My first car was a 68 Mustang and I got hit from behind.

That sucks! Sorry to hear about it. Was the other driver licensed? American citizen? A friend of mine got hit by an uninsured motorist and the state required him to sign a payment agreement and if he failed to pay they would revoke his license. Did you have an insurance policy with an appraised or stated value? Be patient and it will all work out in the end. At least you have the Cobra to drive! kennyg

Don't think you have to jump in and fix it right away either. I would make sure your insurance has plenty of shots of it. Don't go pulling things off or trying to do make shift repairs to keep it going. Drive your other car for a week or two.

That's bad news. Look at the bright side......You could order and replace with all new body parts and not have anymore bondo. Let your insurance company go after him.

Always remember that an insurance company will do the bare minimum to fix your car.

Ummm I dont know about the prices where you are at but that looks like it is in the 3k-5k price range to fix. Not trying to start anything just saying.

Man that really sucks. Sounds like what happened to me when I was 17 I think when a drunk driver wiped out my driver side of my 70 Ranchero.

This is some really great advise. If you are not planning to do that work yourself then just leave it the way it is untill the insurance company says its ok to take it to a shop.

That is true to a point. If it requires replacement of panels they will pay for that.

ya Jake, i don't know where you came up with those numbers , this is a rough estimate of what i think it would cost at a repair shop

new axle is a 300. bucks by itself,

quarter panel is easily 400 bucks with shipping,

new wheel, 125.00-150.00

side scoop 110.00

lower molding 70.00

wheel well will need to be replaced due to the amount of run\st on that fender 70.00+ shipping

that is new parts 1000+

to install the parts your looking at about 2000-2500 in labor,

plus paint another 400-800 depending on quality and how much they repaint

at a min not including any other parts they need wheel bearings , seals ect your at about 4000.00

of course you could get some used parts but why.

and Ale, a problem you might have is the insurance company might not want to pay 100% since there was a problem previously repaired in a less than professional way.

insurance calls it betterment, when they fix or repair a car to a better condition that it was before a claim.
