Project: '67 Fastback 'Facelift'
Here's a '67 Fastback that I'll be performing a 'facelift' on over the next couple of 'work' days. This is an original owner Mustang that has something like 300,000 miles on it, and it has always been maintained as a 'daily driver'. Previous repairs, and hit and run parking lot damage has led the owner to want to freshen up the front of the Stang. I'll be replacing the headlight bucket assemblies, upper and lower valances, front bumper, and hood and grille mouldings. We sure are lucky as Mustang owners to have access to so many reproduction parts for a project such as this. Here's a couple of pics of the fastback along with a few of the new parts I'll be using. I went to purchase paint yesterday, color code V = Burnt Amber, and to my surprise the paint store on Artie had closed (I experienced one of those 'oh s_it' moments). I've been using PPG products for years and now I will be experimenting with DuPont. I hope you find this thread as usefull information. Look for updates coming soon on this project. kennyg

Hand sanded with 180 grit sandpaper and urethene primed the front valances today. The 3rd part in the pic is for another vehicle, I try to have other parts ready when priming to minimize waste.

Found some time to get back on this project!
I'm working with repro parts so there is always some extra work to do. I hand blocked the headlight buckets and found the right hand one to be pretty decent, however, the left hand has several imperfections that needed attention. I used a fine file on some casting marks, and filled in some grinder marks with a 2 part polyester filler to prep the buckets for priming. More to come...

After the urethene primer dried, I wet sanded with 400 grit wet/dry

then, sealed the parts,

Always wear a respirator when spraying paint products, I'm purchasing a fresh air supply in the near future!

A tack rag can be your best friend right now, tack between coats to remove overspray, dust, and creatures.

Apply several coats of color allowing to flash between coats and until desired coverage is obtained.

And...finally the clearcoat.

Now it's beer thirty!

Finally got a chance to update this thread. Finished the facelift project on the '67 fastback. Here's a couple of pics.

And remember what it looked like when I started?

And Mberglo you were right, the owner wants to know how much $$$ to paint the whole Mustang. Wish it were that easy to determine! Until my next project,...kennyg
