Obsidian Mustang in Hot Rod Magazine
You've all probably seen or heard of the Obsidian Mustang by now. The build was featured several months ago on Chop, Cut, Rebuild, and has been mentioned in several magazines. The newest issue of Hot Rod just arrived today and I was excited to check it out. This is an original '67 fastback totally revamped. 847 HP, Tremec, RRS suspension, 18 unique body mods, paddle shifter, leather interior, ...The list goes on and on. HR got the opportunity to see what this ultimate Mustang was made of at Willow Springs with a professional driver behind the wheel. The shifter jammed in gear twice, shifter computer overheated, engine overheated...The man that financed this thing has way to much money to spare. Cost to build? $1.3 million !!! They hope to sell it at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson auction for more than that! Good Luck! While Obsidian is nice, a man could spend his money more wisely and own a collection of premium Mustangs. kennyg

The current issue of Hot Rod, has the new Camaro on the front cover, is probably on news stands now. I get a subscription. BTW, just sent in an amazing renewal offer, 48 issues for $30! Now I'm paid through 3/16 with the offers I had already responded to. Hope they still print magazines then, I guess they will if there are any trees left. kennyg
I get that mag via US postal myself. I didn't mind the look of the hood so much, but the placement of the heat exchangers was fairly stupid in my opinion. I like seeing people add their personal touch when they restore or modify, but spending over 1 million to build a car is just stupid and drives up costs for the rest of us. On the up side I do like the paddle shifter idea if they can work the bugs out. Due to injuries I can't drive a stick long enough to own one again, so I would love for a paddle shifter the works to become an common part to buy. This guy will lose a lot of money at auction, but just when you thought that you have seen the dumbest decision in history there will always be someone just waiting to 1 up the previous idiot.

I guess my favorite '67 build, that I've seen in person, to date, is the Ring Brother's with the split rear window. They built it for Roush to showcase his crate engines. It was in Roush's display at the '07 B-J auction midway. The Rings are fine craftsmen. Now I don't know what they were paid to build that fine Stang. kennyg
