New project about to be undertaken!

well, i sold my blue 67.....
to my dad, and the ummm ever fuel efficient 302 with 8mpg highway is coming out! I'll be using it to piece together my drag car, BUT that isnt the project.

The 67 will be receiving the gas sipping fuel efficient 2.3T from an SVO/TC. the transmission will probably be a 5 speed (t-5). I am having some guys look at the car tonight to help me decide on how to make this work, im thinking i'll be swapping to a mustang II front end. I will be placing a ranger rear end out back. so with the car losing some weight about 150lbs, it should come close to weighing 2800-2900 with driver, and i will be upping the boost on the stock turbo to 18psi....hopefully i will also have access to a welder and will be able to fab up my own intercooler.

with some simple bolt ons the car should be around 300hp, and if i have time i'll be porting the head on it to add a little more....looking to get 25-30mpg out of it.

updates after i forgot

The front end is almost apart to hunt down any rust bugs, having some trouble with some fender bolts, so i am soaking them in WD-40.
*note... a jack and jack stands make this process much smoother, after my day of working i promptly went and picked some up*

bumper is off,
front fascia is off,
grill is out,
fender bolts are out save the few rusted ones,
head lights are out,
removed most of the accessories

next on my list as soon as i get another pan...
drain the fluids
-oil
-radiator
-transmission
remove the engine from the blue mustang
remove all wiring.

now for some questions
what is the difference between a C4 and a C5 is it just cooling or what?
Are there any direct swap 8.8's for 67's
what kind of converter would be best?

The 8.8 is not a direct or easy swap. I believe the pinion is not in the right spot for your driveshaft, and the housing doesn't have mounting pads for leaf springs. There's no advantage to the 8.8 except for factory disc brakes, and the discs can be added to your 8 inch much easier than fitting the 8.8.

C4 and C5 are automatic transmissions. You'll want a T5 or AOD if you're chasing MPGs. Of course if you swap to the T5, you'll get the joy of finding a clutch pedal setup for an early car and making it work with a cable clutch. All doable, but not in one day.

This is really a pretty big and expensive project. Make sure you really account for the costs before you start hacking the car apart. You'll never get it back in gas savings.

All that said, I wish you good luck with your project.

my 68 has got a 72 maverick 302, like your 67, 8 mpg most likley. But the crown peice of the car is the new t-5. the t-5 is a great choise tranny wise but i dont know where to get an svo engine.

Thanks for the info

I think we'll be sticking pretty much to the auto tranny setup. I looked into doing the t-5 swap...to rich for my blood. I don't think the 8" will have a problem with the 2.3 to start out, but eventually it will.
As far as expensive what do you mean? i've got a complete donor car and all that trash so there goes some of the expenses, the rest i can fab/ paint/ powder coat myself saving more money. Of course projects kinda nickel and dime you to death.

B/c the SVO is a fat pig compared to this car, and looks like *** compared to this car. BUT i do want one, and I mean why not do this?
