NASA Racing Oct 13-14 Barber Motorsports, Birmingham
I want to invite the RCMC to come watch some of the most interesting and fun road racing in the Southeast. The National Auto Sport Association will be at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham the weekend of October 13-14. NASA holds 10-12 events per year where they have dozens of race classes as well as the High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) School. The thing that makes this interesting is the types of cars. We get everything from Vipers and Ferraris to retired Cup cars to Hondas and Scions (and believe me, you learn to respect them all).
If you'd like to participate in the HPDE school, there is still time, but it will certainly sell out. The price is $349 for the weekend, which includes classroom instruction, a licensed instructor to ride with you all weekend, door prizes and raffles, etc. PM LMan or me for details.
NASA has a worker credit program, where you can earn a free HPDE weekend by working two weekends. If you'd like to help get cars lined up on grid, work a corner waving flags, perhaps even take a try at the starter stand, PM LMan or me for details. Workman did this in the Spring and had a good time. It's also how LMan and I got started with NASA.
In addition to the racing, I believe NASA is planning to put on a carshow. I don't have all the details yet, but I'll pass them along as I get them.
There are hotels in the area, but not exactly next door to the track. You can plan to commute each day, or you can camp out at the track. Details on that will come later.
I'd really like RCMC to attend this event. I think you would all enjoy it.

Only if you bring your pants and don't scream the whole time!
Actually, ridealongs can only be given by instructors, and we'll likely be too busy to give any. It's possible but unlikely.

I won't be able to attend tonight's meeting, but someone please mention this event and see if we can get a group together to attend.
Also, don't forget to mention the Crow Mountain climb next weekend.

RCMC-wise, that weekend is packed full. At least one car show I know of, the drive-in movie (possible change tbd), and the Barber event. I want to do all three!!!!
Yet another club meeting issue (#2478 on the docket) discussed TONIGHT, Tuesday, Sep 18, 7pm, BE THERE!

I'm here . Mike's got the meeting minutes now, so the letter should be coming out.
There wasn't a very big turnout the other night, so the interest in the NASA event was minimal. As for the drive-in, the date as of now stayed the same, October 13th, unless we get enough people to want to change it.

We are in need of more volunteers to work this event. In addition to free admission, you'll get free lunch, worker credits toward a weekend on track, free adult beverages Saturday evening, and best of all, the most amazing view of the action. PM me or LMan for details.
