My balancer problem

OK, I got the crank pulley off this afternoon and it was warped.... Also, the harmonic balancer or whatever it's called has been beaten on the the crank and has damaged the "ring" area, that the pulley sits on. So, do I need to buy a new balancer and new pulley or does someone in the club have both, that I could buy?

Hmmm... I am not sure that I would trust a used balancer. You would be best off buying new. This is a critical part to the health and life of your engine.

For a pulley, you could go ahead and get an underdrive crank pulley, but you would have to get a smaller belt to compensate.

Thanks for that site, that's the cheapest I've seen so far. About underdrive pulleys, I've heard in the past that they hurt the engine, rather than help it? Also, I've never seen UD pulleys in singles, I've only seen them sold in pairs? I don't really want to buy another belt, due to the fact, that I just bought a stock one.

Uh, no.
They do not *hurt* the engine at all. The reduce the parasitic drg on the engine, thus freeing up horsepwer. The only issue is that the alternator will turn a little slower. For those BumpnKarz, this can be an issue at idle to keep that bass goin'.

Yes, I have seen where you can buy just a crank pulley. But, I think you would probably be better getting a good used or a new one. That link is Parts America which is Advance Auto Parts.

I bought a balancer from O'reilly for about $45 last year and it worked great. You can probably score a stock crank pulley on Ebay for nothing, since so many folks remove them to install underdrives.
