Ralph....you southern boys have it too easy. That was gunk?! You need to make a trip back north to see what a winter w/ salt on the roads does to an engine bay.

Looks good though!! Seemed like a perfect time to port the heads, up the cam, and swap the intake though.

That's just wrong. I would never make a joke like that.

I still hate that you sold your 84.
Yeah, I dug out your GT40P article when I was thinking of going that route with an Explorer motor. I came very close to doing that.

But, like I've been sayin'...
I had a bent pushrod, weak rings, bad vacuum diaphragm on the dizzy...
And breaking tires in all 4 gears.

I need traction.

LOL! yeah....I miss that car sometimes. Especially the last time I got a door ding!! P's would have been a nice match but then you've got new headers to get too.

How'd you bend a pushrod?

I'll have to get something carbed again at some point. One of the local list guys up here just dropped a 402 windsor stroker in his four-eye. He's still got carb tuning issues but I think I'd like to do a similar build at some point.

Maybe a carbed 408W into the 350Z!

Yeah, I kept looking at that route. And when I priced headers... Oof!

Ummm...
8K RPM...
That is also how I broke the oil pump driveshaft.
Third locked out on me when I shifted.
Since then I have rebuilt the T5 to Z-spec (had a broken fork among other things) and threw in those 3.55 gears you gave me. So, I am back to a totally rebuilt drivetrain.

I still run that old carb'ed mailing list, but there is hardly any traffic at all.

Yikes! time for an MSD 6AL! doesn't always help though. Had a buddy that started and ran the Dakota Mailing List years back. He hit 2nd intead of 4th one day at the strip and got it into gear. Bent up everything.

John warned me the traffic would be slow. LOL I still see a couple names in the member's list I remember.

I know...
I still have the Duraspark. Funny thing is the Crane adjustable vacuum diaphragm was busted as well.

Are we done, yet?

Dangit...

I have been trying to upload pics here, but I keep getting a database error.

Until then, pull down this wav file and enjoy.

Yea, I saw a silver/black 4 eye approaching me the other day. As it passed, I thought, "There goes Ralph". It didn't occur to me until hours later that "Hey, that was Ralph in his 4 eye!!!!! It's back on the road!!!"

Hehehe...

Well, not completely. I had to work out a few small problems after firing it up Thursday night. I shredded two serpentine belts. I drove it up to Autozone and we talked about it. Looked like the new alternator sat back about one rib width (there are 6). They were kind enough to give me a belt for free, charge up my battery for free, and I used some washers on the back of the mounting bracket to move it all forward. Crossing my fingers on that one. Then, the reman power steering pump was noisy. So, I drove it up again and let them hear it to make sure I would get a free exchange. I just finished that one and all is now buttoned up. I also had to drop the exhaust a couple of inches. I had it tucked up too high and it was banging the frame rail.

Gonna call it finished!

Okay, a few of you folks saw this thing on the road. I have been shaking out a couple of bugs. I got the rest of my A/C parts in and charged it up, then my first problem was that I shredded two belts. After some research and measuring, I found that my new alternator set back a bit. I took the bracket off, shimmed it, then installed it. Then I found that my power steering pump was WAY loud. So I took it off and swapped it out. I also found my exhaust was a bit high in that it was bumping the frame. So I dropped it. I have yet to shake out a charging issue that I do not like.

Here are the last two pics. I put up the before where I started, and the after. This was a nice project. I hope it lasts a while.
