Oh, by the way...
If you do not know why all of this happened in the first place, here's the little culprit. It seems this oil pump driveshaft and the pushrod can't handle 8K RPM. Wimps!

Now, below are some parts that I got cleaned, painted, and they have driced for a few days. So I took a little time painting some more thangs, cleaning some more things, and even mounting a few things.

So, I decided to clean up the heads. Then I decide to tear down the heads. Then I found that I do not like the seals that came in my engine gasket kit.
Anyone know if these will work? They don't even hold onto the tower.

And remember how greasy the starter was? Man, I think it is 5 pounds lighter.

Okay, I saved this set for last. I must admit, I am stoked on how these headers came out. I got some of the 1200-degree paint. I have never painted headers before, so we will see how it holds up. It's a sweet improvement now. I gotta get a pic of the engine mocked up with these puppies hanging on it.
This is cleaned and ready to paint.
Attachment 31445
For some reason, the lighting here makes the paint look grey.
Attachment 31446
Now, here I pulled the tape off of the medallions. This just looked too sweet.

So, I went first thing and got my new valve seals - the right ones this time. I cleaned up the A/C compressor (I am not going to paint this piece), SVO master cylinder, A/C condenser, and Modine 3-core radiator. You can see here how those parts are looking now.

They only had one set of valve seals. I picked them up and put one head back together. I cleaned it up, taped it off and shot it with the New Ford Blue paint.

I also picked up the one-piece oil pan gasket. If you are ever to the point that you are doing this, I highly recommend one of these. You are almost gauranteed no leaks.

*grins*
Could probably do it, but I think I'm gonna lay off it for a while after this one.
Thanks...
My biggest issue with all of this is breaking paint when tightening nuts. I tried the tape trick, but I guess I am doing something wrong.
*shrugs*
No big deal.
I did get a new set of valve seals. I wasted money getting the engine gasket kit. Won't ever do that again.
Also, I have been shopping for weatherpacks and wiring. Did a comparison between Summit and Jegs. Summit is definitely cheaper and their handling fee is lower than Jegs.
I need to pick up the second set of valve seals (they only had one set in stock) and put the other head together. I cannot believe I am almost finished with the greasy part.

Hey, it rained and cooled off tonight! I had the garage doors open and finally felt some cool air. So, the first thing I did is finish getting the heads on.

Once they were torqued down, it was time to throw in the pushrods and 1.6 roller rockers that I had on before. Took a little time, but I think I have them right.
Attachment 31785
Laid a couple of beads of silicone down at the ends of the block and placed the intake. Took my time and torqued it down. Took about 10 passes to do it, of course.
Attachment 31786
And, like I mentioned before, I just had to mock up some of the stuff. Gosh, all these clean and painted parts ought to add at least 5HP! Anyway, these pictures made me smile and gives me more incentive to get going this weekend. I am really liking the color.

Many thanks to Anthony that you see in the pics below. I could not have done this so easily without his help. We had the "new" motor in and bolted before noon.
These last set of pics show some ugly guy and Anthony getting the old engine out. There is also some cleaning that had to go on before the "new" engine went in.

Now, let's get clean!
Aw, heck. Now let's start the fun part. The going-together part. I love it when I finally get here. Things start taking on a new meaning when clean and new parts are being bolted together.
I thought that I would first show where the speedo cable is gonna get clean, the Painless weatherpack connectors that I am using, and the piece that I still need to do my A/C.

And here we got the clutch all setup, the front of the engine, the first shot after bolting it all in, and some of the work I put into it the rest of this afternoon.

So, that is it for today. Time to do some bowling for the Junior Achievement. Tomorrow, I am going to try and finish the wiring. That would be my last major job out of the way.

My goal this weekend was to get the old engine out, the new engine in, and get the wiring done. I am happy to say I met and exceeded my goal. It was not as hot as it has been, so the garage work was not too bad.
I started on the wiring. Laid out some of the engine parts to get the wiring cut right the first time. I am amazed at the time it took to do all of this. Most of the original wiring is intact. I only wished to replace the stuff that was in terrible shape. Once I got this done, I actually hooked up the battery to make sure that everything had voltage. Even heard the fuel pump kick on. Yes!

So, once I had the wiring in place where I felt good about it, I started to put a bunch of small stuff together. Now, some of these things are not mounted quite yet like the A/C compressor and the carb. But most everything else is. The clutch, speedo, and accelerator cables are all connected. I need to bleed the brakes, mount the headers and exhaust, top radiator hose, fluids, plugs, wires...
The rest of my A/C stuff gets in Thursday. So, my goal is to have it on the road next weekend. Not bad.
