Im ready to set my car on fire.........

sooo we went over to south carolina this week for mustang week. We left out monday morning. Tuesday evening was the speedway night so we headed out got to the track and were waiting in line to get in.. all of a sudden we hear this loud bang and it sounded like a gunshot.. soo i figured something blew on my car...got out and coolant was pouring out of my car!!!!!! ... turned out the LFP alum. tank burst at the weld on the bottom.

Soo I call my dad up and have him go over to my house and overnight me my stock tank. We swap it out the next day and were back on the road!
On the way to the car show yesterday... well after driving for about 10 blocks we see steam coming from the hood vents, pull over at a gas station and pop the hood..low on coolant/water and we added some to it thinking that was the problem. Filled it up and ran the car a few minutes it didnt do anything strage. Soo we hop back in and head on.. about 4 blocks later the car starts overheating the temp guage redlines..annd the engine shut down. Had the car towed then to a local Svt dealership and they got back with us this morning on the status:

blown head gasket on the drivers side
blown water pump
blown water pump gasket
blown water pump sensor
blown thermastat

What the crap!>??!?! GAHHHHH i hate my car right now. So this WHOLE week I havent gotten to enjoy my car or the stangs due to the stress of this. Crummy vacation huh?

Man, that sucks. I wonder if the thermostat stuck causing the other problems? I wouldn't think that would cause the water pump to fail though...strange.

Im not sure. About a week before we left I popped my hood and there was coolant blown all over that side of the engine. Made a mess.. cleaned it up and checked it out we couldnt find anything wrong or where it came from. Drove the car up here and it did fine till it belw the LFP alum. coolant tank out.. it sucks.

But whats also strange is the windows will not work and go back up. The fuse isnt shot.. so theres something electrical going on too. This is going to be a LONG misserable week. I'm ready to get back home!

ok on the doors, you'll think I'm crazy....but hold the button, and slam the door at the same time....mine did that on a real hot day, haven't done it since then.

no worries, your car will be fine....and yes it will be due to the head gasket. the engine basically pressurized your entire cooling system over capacity and that will cause the tank to burst as well as the waterpump gasket and pump.....sorry to hear....but these are what we do to own these amazing cars. remember I put in 2 grand+ right after I bought the car.....so trust me I feel for ya.

Phillip: Not calling you out or anything, just wondering if you can explain how the engine would pressurize the cooling system if you have a blown head gasket?

same thing happened on my 5.0 when the coolant part of the gasket breaks as well as the head gasket blowing out in that direction will then expose the coolant system to the pressure that the piston forces into the cooling system, causing it to rapidly pressurize. when my 5.0 did it, I ruptured my radiator and blew the cap completely off I was at 10 psi at WOT at the time, now take into account the pressure the head is holding down before the valves open.....it's alot.

Well that makes sense I guess. If the coolant is leaked into the cylinder, it will immediately vaporize due to the high temps, and expand GREATLY. Then it gets forced back into the same opening, along with the other air in the cylinder.

If you're going to set your car on fire, make sure you have friends standing by with fire extinguishers. I have a buddy who didn't put teflon tape on his AN fuel fittings. Whole engine compartment went up in flames. What a friggin idiot. Luckily his friends put it out in time, no damage was done.
