I'm just curious....but I'm also just serious

I am trying to find out from my fellow muscle car community...is there a HATE for "ricers" as they are called? I hear so much derision (some justified) about these cars and I wanna know, is it genuine?

For example, I frequently joke about corvettes and camaros. I have to. I love mustangs. But truth be told, I applaud anyone who is a car enthusiast, even if they choose to be enthusiastic about a car I don't like camaros..... but including nissans.

Now honestly, many of the "ricer" cars do look ridiculous with all the spoilers and such but honestly....the same can be said for many a mustang. Especially the new ones. Have you seen how many people throw lower skirts, front air dams, window louvers, side skirts, quarter panel dressing and hood scoops all over their car. To me that looks just as ridiculous and a lot of new mustangs look this way. Sorry folks

So is it that the car has a V8 that makes all that urethane accesserizing ok? No....because mustangs have V6 also and we don't make fun of those owners here on this board.

By the way, the 2000 cobra R, ironically (despite my previous assertion) is one of my favorite cars, ad it IS a ricer. (in appearance anyway) It may have a potent V8, but it's look is no different from a hopped up mitsubishi eclipse with it's rear spoiler and hood and oversized front air dam.

And since many ricers will beat the crap out of a mustang despite only sporting 1.8 liters (albeit 30 lb of boost), it can't be because they are slow.

Anyway, I just wanna know, is there genuine contempt for these cars and their owners? Is it jealously? Is it hate? Or is it just good natured fun and I never got the joke? Anyway, gotta go, I hear my neighbor pulling his camaro out of the drive and I wanna go remind him what a loser he is before he takes off....

Maybe it's a love/hate thing. When around your Ford buddies you talk down about the ricers, but after riding in one and experience the front wheel burnout you have a little respect. Have you been here long enough yet to have figured out the Auburn/Alabama thing? It takes a while for newcomers. I was born and raised an Auburn fan, and went to college there. But I LOVE my Alabama friends and pull for Alabama when they are playing anyone else. NOT!!! How about Jeff Gordon, now Kyle Busch. Some people are scared of the unknown. But talk to some of your true blue American Mustang muscle car owner/enthusiast friends and find out if they go to Wal-Mart or any of the dollar stores and routinely buy that made in China crap. Where is their true loyalty? kennyg

I think Ken is right.....My family has always (back to Model Ts) been Ford/Lincoln/Mercury folks. I'd never own a GM and/or Chevy even though some (vettes, camaros, etc.) aren't too bad (looks/performance). I've met some strange car folks including some real off-the-wall Mustangers, but some of the things the "rice community" does is just plain weird.....like what is with the big honking mufflers on a POS?! And unless you've done some serious changing/tuning they'll never get the serious hp of any American car. They do have cool paint and boom boxes, though....lol

American vs. foreign, vanilla/chocolate, left/right, up/down, Obama/McCain....to each his own.

How can the R be a ricer? It's air dam, hood, and rear spoiler all serve a purpose. It is a race car. Owner's of R's praise the functionality of those devices many times on svtperformance.com where they post about actually racing their cars.

I like ALL cars, especially fast ones. If there is function to form than I support all who customize their cars.

i agree with all of this except the cobra R thing.

the rear wing and body kit on the R is fully functional....now a wing might be functional on some foreign cars, but why does a FWD car need a wing?

www.ricehatersclub.com

I am part of it along with most of my red mustang club people.

Who Are We?

We are a bunch of red-blooded automotive enthusiasts that eat, drink, sleep and **** cars. We believe in doing what ever it is you want to do to your ride, be it a stocker or an all-out dragster, as long as it doesn't veer off into the Ricer World.
What do we consider "Ricer" to be? Well, if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be here, but I'll humor your inquisitiveness anyway.
  • Any bone stock ride that is covered in stickers from companies that have nothing to do with that ride is a Ricer.
  • Any ride with a paint job that looks like something Walt Disney threw-up is a Ricer.
  • Any ride with more bondo than sheet metal is a Ricer.
  • Any ride with undercarriage lighting is a Ricer.
  • Any ride with neon ANYWHERE is a Ricer (beer trucks omitted).
  • Any ride with wheels 3 sizes too small or too large is a Ricer.
  • Fartpipe coffee can exhaust? Ricer.
  • "R" Badges? Ricer.
  • Monster tach in a mechanically stock vehicle? Ricer.
  • Ground effects bought at Home Depot? Ricer.
  • Fake scoops mounted where even real scoops would serve no purpose? Ricer.
  • A spoiler that more resembles a picnic basket handle? Ricer.
  • Aviation parts mounted "for better traction"? Ricer.
  • Defrost ducts painted with latex paint to match the color of the sticker on the brake pads? Ricer.
A Ricer doesn't have to be an Import. There are plenty of Riced-out Domestics on the road. In fact, many of our members own Imports. We are NOT anti-Import, we are anti-Ricer.

So if this sounds like the kind of place for you, come on inside and hang out a while

Funny how a stock Mustang GT could certainly be considered a "Ricer" when you consider all the non-functional scoops on it.
Bottom line, I don't care WHAT is done to the car as long as it's done in a professional manner, I'll at least give the guy props for doing it. Does that mean I have to LIKE it? No way! Respect the creativity and workmanship at least though.

I have no problem with Import car, heck I own a Toyota. My problem is with the Fast And Furious wannabes. People who do stupid things to other wise nice cars.

One of my first mods to my GT was to install a functional Shaker scoop. One down, two to go!

Funny how some of the old mustangs (a 68 Shelby comes to mind) had fake scoops yet they are not considered rice yet the new cars are.

Because you can put real scoops there and they serve a purpose.

Well the side scoops I saw on the 68 didn't have an option to make them "real" . Anyway, not sure all would qualify as rice. Some look really good. I guess the look of Rice is in they eye of the beholder.
