The underhood of my car is really ugly. That's why my hood is always closed. So, I guess it is time to do something about it since I gotta swap out the shortblock anyway. So, here's the start...

So, a club member sells me a low-mileage longblock. After pulling the heads and cleaning up 7 of the 8 pistons, this is what it looks like before I even get it out of the bed of my parts truck.

Stripped the pan, shot it with some etching primer, got out the old masking tape and started havin' a ball...

Mark, you animal. I have already figured in new alternator, regulator, and ignition box. The compressor and lines and the master cylinder will clean up with a wire wheel, the wiper motor may. If not, I'll buy new. Clean up the wiring a bit, clean and paint some of the brackets and power booster... I'll pull as much as I can and paint the firewall and fender aprons. Actually make it look nice.

Get rid of my breather? And lose horsepower?
