Try this, Naz (about the 4th post down) is very well versed in the 4.6 DOHC. Also dropping the K-member isn't too hard either if you go that way.

I've done 4 complete teardown and rebuilds on DOHC.s and a few SOHCs they aren't too bad, just the space sucks. drop the kmember down jut a bit if you can.....DOHC's are da suck clearance wise.....wait til you have LTH's that will add a whole degree of difficulty.
hah i refuse to do long tubes on this car. I got waaay lucky and got them installed on my old GT for $150! Guy refused to ever touch a mod motor mustang again.
Right now saturday is looking somewhat iffy for me and the cobra... just depends on if the valve covers show up tomrrow and how the put back together goes...

I am contemplating LT's for mine, I had already done shorties. All I can say is drop the K-member, drop the K-member!!!
If I do it again, I will swap out the K-member for an aftermarket unit at the same time, I'm not going to drop it for nothing.

WOW!! 3 hours for one valve cover. I've never tried that in the car but you could almost drop the motor and change the covers out in 3 hours. I say lower the K-member with the motor still attached just to give you enough room to get that cover off. It's easy to lower it like that and just lift the whole assembly back up into the chassis with an engine hoist. That's how I put the 4v in my GT.
We got them today.. and man they are beautiful! My dads off work the rest of the week.. so me and him are gonna try to put them on while paul is at work... maybe this will move things along a bit quicker. At the latest now its looking like i *may* be up at 5 am saturday cleaning the car... lol My neighbors are gonna think ive lost my mind..
