How do you keep your engine clean?

 

I've been using Mothers clay bar and Mequiars NXT 2.0 wax.

Eventually I will be getting Zaino and Dodo Juice.

 

For the top of the car, I use cat vomit. I let the cat out into the garage after she has eaten and she performs her binge-purge trick.

For under the hood, about every 3 months or so I fill my crankcase with 5 quarts of 10W-30. I then use the engine at varying RPMs to sling it all over the engine compartment and other components.

i thougth there might be some good info here and there was, i would like to add for the interior fragrance try running over some fresh road kill with the windows down on a hot day

 

For exterior black pieces I've tried Mother's Back to Black and similar products with only limited success. What seems to work best is used coffee grounds. Folgers Dark Roast works very well on the matte black pieces of my car. At work I collect the grounds in a mason jar each morning. Free, easy and my car smells yummy! Just don't get your coffee grounds confused with your snuff spit collection.

Speaking of snuff spit, I've had great results on the exhaust tips with it. Make sure you have a thick paste and then shine the tips like you would shine shoes. Hold a microfiber towel by each end and slide back and forth vigorously. My brother has been using Copenhagen for years and sends me a jug of the stuff each month. Pour it on the towel liberally (some people prefer to use disposable latex gloves as well). If you use Skoal, your results may be different.

all seriousness aside is it safe to pressure wash a dirty engine these days .. like at a car wash .. my yota is filthy with sand or salt dust from the time it spent in fla..

 

I have been told by a friend who is a mechanic that pressure washing engines now with all the electronics is not the best idea. however i would think that all the seals and having to be weatherproof it would not be an issue but not to direct the water at the same spot for very long. just what i have heard and my opinion i know i use to wash the engine in my 350z with no problems.

 

I would consider it "risky business". I have not pressure washed any engines since the 80's but thats just me.

 

I'm pretty sure you mean to put the joking to the side.

If you do pressure wash an engine, spray in some simple Green and let it soak for a few minutes, then spray from a small distance.
