Yeah, and even though I was talking about the pinion nut, he asked about the ring gear.

Is it something that you can post a link to ? I had a user on here ask me about changing gears, I'm sure the info would help him. Thanks Ralph

Yes!!!

My 2.95 gear/cluster set came in today. This replaces the 3.35 gear/cluster set that was in the tranny (91-95 spec). Great price from The Gear Box, an eBay store. Judy there is very nice. $347 for the whole set.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...4191832&rd=1,1

Waiting on my 12-ton shop press to get here. I ordered it from Harbor Freight online because they did not have one in the store. On sale for $80 plus less then $10 for shipping.

All of my parts are cleaned up. Last thing that I need before I start assembly of the T5 is to check the runout of the mainshaft. I have several sources for another shaft if this one is too far out of tolerance to build.

This will bring the T5 to "Z" specification, yet 5th gear will be better for the highway. It will end up at .61 instead of the .68 in the "Z".

Looking through my rear-end hardware, I need the kit to rebuild the Trak-Lok. So, if you will excuse me, I think I will go shopping now.

Cool. My press came in. I spent today assembling it. Then I worked at pressing some old bearings off to be able to use the old races for pressing bearings on. I then went to work pressing the main bearing race in the case, the front bearing on the cluster gear, setting the gear in, then pressing the back bearing on. I also pressed the bearing on the input shaft. I accidentally pressed too many bearings on and had to press the one back off on the rear of the cluster to get the cluster in the case, then press it back on. *grins*

I also pressed the tailshaft busing in. Then put the reverse idler gear in the case. Went to set my lash for the cluster gear (should be .000) and I am stopped. The largest shim I have is .118 and I need one .126

Bob Hanlon (Hanlon Motorsports) mentioned that I can get one from him.
Perhaps tomorrow I will pop the rear end out since I am stopped on the tranny.

Nope. Can't stack because the shims I have run from .114 to .118. It's okay. I am not in a hurry. Hopefully I will have the shim in by Friday and have some fun this coming weekend finish putting the tranny together. It looks sweet all clean and coming together..

Thanks, Mark. It was a bit colder than I like since I am not in a hurry. I did unbox the gears that I was given and clean them up and inspect them. A friend came over and I had a ride in his car to troubleshoot a front-end noise. Got too cold to do anything else.
You have any specific plans this coming weekend? I'd like to at least pull the gears.

Also gonna check on a 94-95 Cobra longblock.

Too cold??? What a wuss.

It wasn't even sleeting.

I worked on my new trailer all weekend. Installed weight distribution / anti-sway hitch. Fabricated and installed a tire rack that hangs on the wall. Installed 110v system with 4 outlets and 2 fluorescent lights.

Dangit, you are right!
*checks the weather*
Yep, gonna sleet this weekend.
I SMELL GEAR OIL!!!
*chuckles*
You were a busy one...

I love my flourescent lights that I got out of my shed before I moved.

I checked the runout of my shaft. Hanlon mentions up to .010"... And that is where mine is. Whoa... close.
Shim is costing $12 to get to me. Should be here before the weekend.
So I will be possibly finishing the tranny this weekend.

I also ordered a TrakLok rebuild kit from CJ Pony Parts. $50 to my door. Best price I could find. I am not positive it will be here by Friday, but I am hoping.

Also got a line on a 95 Cobra engine... Hmmmm.... GT40 heads.

Give me a call when you're ready to get started.

If you pass on the engine, LMan might be interested.

The guy is wanting more than what I would pay for the engine, but I would be happy to let him know.

I am thinking finish the tranny rebuild, get the gears in, then pull the engine and tear it down to assess it. I'll have to score a cherry picker and an engine stand. Guess I better go to Harbor Freight and also get a bench grinder.

Speaking of Harbor Freight, I am sick. I went to Autozone to pick up some calipers. They had only one set for $30. HF has the same thing on sale for $13. Sheesh!

Okay, I figure that the garage smelled too good. So I popped off the cover of the rear. drained it, popped the axles out, pulled out the Traklock. It's soaking in the parts washer. And I do not smell bad!

So, gonna set the cleanup some things a bit, see if I can measure pinion depth, then politely ask Mark if he would like to help me work off the pinion nut and possibly put the new one back in.

Please?

Saturday. Anytime. I like mornings.

265 Usher Road
Madison
Google Earth finds me.. *grins*

I am also looking at a compressor from Harbor Freight. Goes for $170, on sale for $100, and I have a line on getting another 20% discount. Oof. $80! Is this thing any good? I am not sure what air ratings I would need to run some air tools (ratchet, DA, etc), perhaps a paint gun to do hoods, fenders, etc...

http://www.harborfreightusa.com/usa/...o?itemid=40400

Anyway, I figure borrow your compressor, air ratchet with proper socket for pinion nut (I can remind you of the size since I have one easy to get to)... I can come over with my pickup for transport there and back...

Think of anything else?

9:30 is good.
I will get you the size.

Also, do you have some 2-jaw pullers?
Some strong ones. The races do not want to come off the diff.
Probably want to spin it with the ratchet as well.

And if anyone else is reading this thread, you are welcome to pop over and take a look at a T5 and an 8.8 all apart.
